Underwriting Manager (WC/P&C) in East Syracuse NY

Provide oversight for the Captive Workers&##39; Compensation program. This would include management of the underwriting and the rating support teams. Responsibilities include risk selection, productivity, and profitable growth. Maintain rapport with the Fronting carrier and other critical vendors supporting the Captive program. Integrate and collaborate with the direct sales team and defined broker partners to ensure underwriting process is efficient and timely. Also, work with management to develop other property and casualty Captive programs benefiting agricultural businesses and farms.

• Monitor daily activities of underwriting, rating and service functions to ensure performance results are achieved.
• Provide direct management oversight of underwriting staff

• Provide oversight of the new business quotation and renewal process to ensure proper tracking, efficient workflows and timely reporting to sales team, brokers and customers of status of quotes/renewals
• Provide oversight of the underwriting process, working with the underwriting team in reviewing existing insurance programs to evaluate the Captive&##39;s insurable risks and coverage gaps, in order to create an appropriate captive insurance platform
• Monitor production growth and profitability goals to assess performance and regularly communicate results to management, with early warning of impending changes in results, including identification of root cause and recommendations on corrective actions to right course
• Initiate and maintain good relationships between the agency sales team, assigned brokers, carrier/reinsurer partners, service center and operations staff. Collaborate with sales leadership, sales and operations teams on process and/or technological enhancements to improve timeliness and quality of quoting/renewal process
• Follow corporate procedures and, through use of corporate-defined technology, maintain weekly and monthly departmental production reports for use by management. Adhere to due dates for underwriting and financial reporting
• Assist the Director in the preparation of feasibility studies, including review of operations, preparation of written reports, and spreadsheets
• Assist in various other special projects as needed, including, but not limited to, processing claims, running reports, research projects, assembling documents for third-party auditors, as well as for legal and compliance teams
• Perform usual activities of Underwriter for assigned key customers, when necessary based on work volumes or when requested by management
• Maintain knowledge of all relevant legislative and regulatory mandates and ensure that all activities comply with requirements
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with external partners, including insurance carriers, TPAs, actuarial/financial firms, consultants and vendors
• Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the Cooperative mission and values. Maintain proper level of professionalism and proactively work to ensure confidentiality/security standards are met and comply with or exceed NYS and federal regulatory requirements
