Technical Manager Development & Applications

The Technical Manager Development & Applications will manage development of new products for customer directed projects and End Use Category (EUC) product and applications development.  Work within our development and applications group – product development and technical managers (team of 6).  Provides technical support to customers and internal teams for ingredient solutions and applications.  Supports Ingredient Solutions internal teams as technical resource.

Key Skillset used in this role:

Role focused on enzyme modified cheese, dairy concentrates, emulsions, and wet sauces.  Will also be heavy customer facing and travel with sales team to support presentations and demos.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with customers to ensure success of opportunities while fostering long-term peer to peer relationships
  • Develop, make, and evaluate finished applications to support customer new product development
  • Track and report progress on projects Salesforce, PCM, and other areas as required
  • Assist with new product scale-ups at manufacturing facilities
  • Participate as technical liaison on cross functional teams to support company Ingredient Solutions growth
  • Work with the Innovation Group to utilize new ingredients as needed
  • Travel to support projects with customers and scale up at plants
  • Safely operates industrial kitchen, lab, and pilot plant equipment related to: spray drying, dry blending, enzyme modification, fermentation, natural flavors, advanced nutrition, and other areas as assigned
  • Performs advanced analytical lab testing as required
  • Respond with data and facts when called upon to be technical resource to customer, sales, customer service, QA, operations, supply chain, and other functional departments
  • Expected to: champion ideas, share information, develop, and lead creative solutions, develop custom formulations, design ingredients for customers’ systems, successfully manage projects without supervision, develop and create applications, and recognized as a technical liaison
  • Creates technical documents related to new product development including Manufacturing instructions, nutritional information, ingredient statements, analytical and microbial testing requirements
  • Utilizes and maintains proficiency in software systems, including but not limited to, formulation (PLM), production (ERP), sales (CRM)
  • Follow all good manufacturing practices (GMP) and work in a manner consistent with all corporate regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements
  • Attend required training, including but not limited to, Safety, GMP/GLP, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), and Safe Quality Foods (SQF)

Skills:

  • 10+ years of experience working in R&D, product development, or innovation at food or ingredient company preferred, with some management preferred
  • Experience in successfully commercializing products, and being a technical liaison – beverage application highly preferred
  • Expert knowledge in area of Food Science, Dairy Chemistry, Fermentation Science, Enzyme Modified Products, and/or Flavor Creation
  • Proficient in experimental design
  • Skills in orderly and effective problem solving
  • Skills in organization and attention to details
  • Knowledge of Laboratory, Pilot Plant, and manufacturing facility processes and procedures
  • Aptitude for equipment operation, maintenance, and sanitation
  • Able to generate ideas, test their effectiveness and decide on a plan of action
  • Able to demonstrate professional, verbal, and written communication
  • Able to follow written and oral instruction and able to lead through wri8tten and oral methods
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Able to communicate with various departments including Customers, Sales, Customer Service, Marketing, Quality Assurance, Operations and Product Development in a professional manner
  • Skills as a collaborative team player
