Baldwin Richardson Foods (BRF) is a family-owned company located east of the city of Rochester, NY and just north of the beautiful Finger Lakes area. It is the leading manufacturer and beverage syrup supplier to the top three quick-service coffee franchises. They have long-standing partnerships with large consumer packaging companies, and national quick service food chains. BRF has been growing, year over year, since it&##39;s inception in the mid-90&##39;s, and is continuing to expand it&##39;s footprint in the current market, and beyond.


This role leads the Quality Team to ensure the production of safe food by following Baldwin Richardson Foods&##39; Quality and Food Safety policies and procedures across the plant supply chain. The Supervisor executes the Food Safety Plan (FSP) and provides technical expertise to their cross-functional partners.


  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization&##39;s policies and applicable laws for Quality Assurance team
  • Conducts root cause analysis and utilizes other quality /problem solving techniques to resolve quality issues including product holds, customer complaints, and GMP&##39;s issues
  • Tracks and reports metrics used to define performance that are aligned with company objectives
  • Analyzes trends to understand performance opportunities and develops plan to close gaps
  • Engages in non-conforming material process to ensure product is segregated and dispositioned
  • Partners with Production, Sanitation, and Warehousing Departments to ensure GMP&##39;s and preventive controls are followed
  • Creates and provides training to BRF team members on quality and food safety as needed
  • Supports plants&##39; readiness for governmental, 1st, 2nd and 3rd party audits (including SQF)
  • Performs internal audits in production and storage areas and on procedures, policies and programs
  • Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk and provides guidance on system improvements and staff training Identifies areas to reduce waste, rework, and other inefficiencies with a focus on continuous process improvement
  • Uses statistical tools to create and assess processes and track progress of quality programs
  • Reviews adherence to budget on a monthly basis
  • Acts as primary representative for all QA lab equipment and calibration of plant scales and balances
  • Acts as a backup for Compliance Analyst, Quality Analyst or Quality Technician as needed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


  • Supervises and coaches quality team members to achieve timely and accurate testing, inspection, and review of ingredients, products, packaging and records
  • Manages the Quality team schedule to ensure coverage is available when needed
  • Sets clear expectations and facilitates coaching and guidance to team members to foster achievement of departmental and company goals
  • Inspires, empowers, and manages performance of Quality team members
  • Cultivates talent by identifying development needs and opportunities, and provides training/coaching to team membersMonitors team overtime spend and supply spend


  • Bachelor&##39;s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Food Science, or Chemical Engineering
  • 3-5 years of prior experience in food safety and quality
  • At least 1 year of prior supervisory experience required


  • PCQI, HACCP, and SPC trained preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt preferred


  • Knowledge of quality systems, food safety, and sanitation practice
  • Ability to interpret data, understand process capability, and relate it to customer specifications
  • Well-developed leadership capabilities and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, with frequent change-overs, and quick commercialization process Strong, effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to assemble resources needed to orchestrate multiple projects/activities and accomplish goals Proficient in time management
