The Transportation Manager owns the transportation processes to proactively provide solutions for current business needs and also develops solutions that enable business growth. This role is accountable for the support, guidance, and clear communication of transportation related supply chain topics as well as management of business partners. This position is responsible for sourcing carriers, obtaining competitive quotes, negotiating rates, monitoring performance, communicating status, resolving issues, approving invoices. Transportation responsibilities include common carriers across all necessary modes as well as the Mizkan fleet operations.


  • Identifies opportunities and ensures solutions are implemented to proactively achieve Mizkan service levels, sales performance, margins, inventory control, and logistics objectives.
  • Manages and implements processes and procedures at Mizkan manufacturing facilities and distribution centers plus third-party warehouses to enable the effective movement of goods.
  • Works with internal and external partners on projects/issues and is the face of Mizkan transportation for the company.
  • Works closely with all departments, distribution management and customers to ensure that service goals are obtained, compliance is sustained, cost containment is achieved, and pricing and negotiation efforts are consistent.
  • Orchestrates information flow and execution of processes and procedures for improvement, compliance, consistency, cost and time management.
  • P&L accountability for all transportation spending as assigned.
  • Drive Cost savings through continuous improvement activities in the transportation landscape.
  • Ensures Fleet Operations are in compliance with DOT and other governing body regulations.
  • Sources, negotiates and evaluates transportation related contracts. Including carrier, broker, equipment, and staffing.
  • Develops, manages, trains and ensures use of supply chain logistics systems including transportation management systems, ERP, dock scheduling, and delivery visibility tools.
  • Identifies cost and service impacts and makes recommendations to support business initiatives and requirements.
  • Executes priorities and objectives of the Transportation department that are aligned with Supply Chain and Company business objectives.
  • Directs, motivates and encourage in-house transportation team and influences third party providers to achieve high performance.
  • Builds productive, results-driven relationships with the vendor community.
  • Evaluate performance and provides counsel and support to chronic poor performing sites and vendors (logistics and 3PL).
  • Develops and executes action plans to drive high performance and continuous productivity and process improvements at Mizkan and with business partners.
  • Supports, reports and educates Management and Internal departments regarding processes, performance, logistics environment and ongoing projects.
  • Works with business partners and management to support Sales and Operations Planning process and on time delivery performance.
  • Manages 3rd party software and transportation vendors.
  • Miscellaneous duties as required.


  • BA Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics or related area.
  • 7+ years third party logistics and Logistics Management experience.
  • Proven contract negotiation experience that resulted in best-in-class cost and service solutions.
  • Must possess critical thinking, problem-solving, continuous improvement, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Thorough understanding of financial reporting and analysis related to logistics spending
  • Experience developing collaborative relationships and partnerships at all levels of the organization and with external vendors that drive business results.
  • Experience with Rail, Freight Brokers, Common Carriers, Dry Van, LTL, Refrigerated carriers.
  • CPG Logistics a must and Import/Export experience required.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of transportation, regulatory requirements, warehouse operations and supply chain processes.
  • Experience with customer service, vendor, and supply chain positions and roles.
  • Prior experience in medium-large, food manufacturing and/or consumer packaged goods organizations with demonstrated success in Supply Chain management.
  • Strong customer (internal and external) solutions development experience.
  • Superior verbal, presentation, written, email communication, interpersonal, collaboration skills.
  • Ability to influence / facilitate change (face to face, via telephone or web conference).
  • Knowledge and/or prior experience working within an SAP and D365 a plus
  • Must possess excellent computer skills that include proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite functions as well as familiarity with Transportation Management System (TMS), and freight rating applications.
  • Certified Supply Chain Professional, American Society of Transportation & Logistics, Certified Professional Logician, or like certifications preferred.
  • Ability to manage time, organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects/tasks with overlapping deadlines.
  • Manage special projects as directed by the Supply Chain Director and Vice President of Operations and Supply Chain.
  • Approximately 25% travel, varying based on situational requirements.
  • Experience working in a fast paced, changing environment.
