Sr. Food Technologist, Protein Seasonings Development

The duties of the Sr. Food Technologist, Protein Seasonings Development are as follows:

  • Develop commercially feasible seasonings and duplicate competitive products, through the successful management and timely completion of customer related projects, in accordance with project parameters and customer requirements
  • Responsible for cost optimization, productivity analysis, and raw material review & rationalization, relative to seasonings and their ingredient portfolio
  • Effectively utilizes critical support functions; Innovations, Analytical, MCI, and Regulatory in the development process
  • Responsible for understanding labeling requirements for protein seasoning duplications, including FDA and USDA guidelines and restrictions for seasonings
  • Determine required levels for USDA regulated ingredients. Communicating with Regulatory and Purchasing for raw material information and labeling requests
  • Responsible for the evaluation and validation of seasoning blends in specific meat and poultry applications in accordance with customer processing parameters
  • Provide technical assistance and seasoning development expertise to protein strategic customers
  • Develop technical to technical contact and participate in customer calls and technical presentations
  • Stay abreast of new food ingredient and protein developments and technologies, trends and innovation, as well as processing and equipment advances relative to key Savory categories
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work environment in their area of jurisdiction
  • Attend required safety training and is trained in the proper care and use of lab equipment


  • B.S. in Food Science or related field, MS in Food Science or related field preferred
  • A minimum of 10-15 years’ experience in a seasoning development role
  • Expert understanding of FDA and USDA labeling guidelines for seasonings
  • Experience with protein application technologies in the Savory category
  • Product and process development experience with meat and poultry
  • Snack seasoning experience is a plus
  • Ability to develop commercially viable seasonings that meet customer requirements relative to profile, performance, ingredient restrictions and cost
  • Proficient in project management systems like PACE and SAP
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, project driven environment
  • Excellent planning and prioritization skills with the ability to multi-task and adapt and adhere to deadlines
  • Sound knowledge of spices, food ingredients, equipment, and processing is required
  • It is necessary to be able to represent oneself, work, and the company in a professional and technical manner to customers
  • Travel may be required
  • Must be proficient in Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Able to influence, facilitate groups with diverse perspectives and bring teams to consensus / alignment
  • Must be willing and able to taste and smell flavors, seasonings and chef creations.
