  • As the Senior Research and Development Extrusion Engineer in our Cereal Innovation, Technology, and Quality (ITQ) you will be responsible for process development, optimization, and commercialization on our extrusion-based processes. In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to impact the ITQ function by leveraging your knowledge, skills, and expertise to create new possibilities in the platform by leading process development and innovation and advancing technical possibilities by bringing strategic differentiation to the General Mills product portfolio.
  • The right candidate for this role will have the ability to recognize and pair deep technical expertise in extrusion and supporting unit operations with business opportunities to drive short and long-term innovation, capability, capacity, and efficiency. The right candidate will also be passionate about innovation and technology, with the ability to work seamlessly across office, pilot plant, and plant environments. Success in this position will require the ability to partner cross-functionally on proprietary process technologies, while also developing and leveraging successful external contacts and relationships. Strong project management and process development skills will be necessary as you demonstrate leadership in complex projects, the ability to advance science, and build new capabilities, processes, and business partnerships in a global and diverse environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Take processes & products from bench scale to full production while collaborating fully in a cross functional environment
  • Develop new products & processes, make process & product improvements, and contribute to concept refinement and process & product start-ups
  • Drive projects through appropriate consumer, descriptive, and discrimination testing to enhance product knowledge from its initial concept state to its appearance on grocers&##39; shelves
  • Partner with global teams to identify new opportunities and solve technical challenges
  • Build technical expertise in new areas and share knowledge across the organization
  • Identify opportunities by challenging formulation and processing assumptions
  • Execute commercialization of projects efficiently and with excellence
  • Provide coaching, training, and daily direction for R&D resources

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor&##39;s degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years of related experience
  • Proven ability to deliver executional excellence, and develop & apply technical and scientific rigor
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple technically driven projects; strong technical background
  • Takes accountability to win, self-starter with a strong bias for action as well as skills for problem-solving and troubleshooting
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to multiple situations and dynamic & rapidly changing environments
  • Ability to collaborate in a cross-functional and external environments

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor&##39;s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with extrusion and supporting processes
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfortable working directly with mechanical equipment
  • Innovative possibilities thinker, creative, and willing to challenge established methods and beliefs
  • Strong communicator, with the ability to adapt style to communicate effectively to the full spectrum of technical to non-technical audiences
