Description of Responsibilities and Objectives:

  • Champion plant Lean, Six Sigma continuous improvement initiative
    • Develop and lead companies continuous improvement initiatives
    • Train and mentor manufacturing, maintenance, and quality personnel on Lean/Six Sigma certification and projects
    • Develop, track, and report continuous improvement/cost savings budget to senior management
    • Lead cross functional project teams, with a focus on inclusion and results
    • Develop robust metric systems that support lean manufacturing philosophy
    • Work with senior leadership, peers, and production employees to identify manufacturing cost reduction, employee safety, and capacity improvement projects
    • Develop and/or support initiation and approval of project charters, including detailed scope of projects, target savings, team members and timelines
    • Utilize continuous improvement problem solving to identify and improve plant safety, meeting defined plant safety metrics
    • Lead plant Industry 4.0 initiative
  • Packaging and Process Engineering
    • Coordinate with production and supply chain teams to optimize packaging equipment, layout, and efficiency
    • Packaging component subject matter expert (SME) for new product development and product improvement, including food contact primary packaging, secondary packaging, equipment capability, and bulk packaging
    • Advise R&D/Product Development team on product packaging, including physical properties, impact on shelf life, cost/quality, and finished package design
    • Act as SME regarding industrial food packaging, plastics, moisture and oxygen barriers, refrigerated shelf life
  • Plant Production/Quality Software System Champion
    • Act as primary point of contact for installation, implementation and reporting of Plant Production/Quality Software
    • Utilize software to identify opportunities for improvement
    • Train Production, Sanitation, Quantity, and Plant Leadership to effectively utilize software
    • Create detailed reports on Manufacturing and Quality metrics (OEE, downtime, safety rate, production rate) and present to Sr Leadership
  • Plant Support and other responsibilities
    • Write work instructions, PM’s, and other support documentation
    • Train Operations, Maintenance, and Sanitation
    • Troubleshoot breakdowns and downtimes
    • Support and work with Quality, Operations, and Maintenance
    • Set up and adjust equipment for processes and scale up
    • Improve ergonomics and safety of processes throughout plant


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Food Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or similar discipline and experience
  • 7 Years experience in food or other manufacturing, minimum of 2 years in a Continuous Improvement role
  • Certified in one or more continuous improvement discipline (Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar certification)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Minitab, Google Suite, Tableau
  • Proficient with industrial control software (Allen Bradley, Siemens, etc.)
  • Knowledge of HACCP, USDA, FDA, as they relate to the food processing industry
  • Project Management experience
  • Self motivated, good organizational skills, and detail oriented with the ability to prioritize
  • Must be able to walk or stand majority of shift
  • Must be able to work in a cold, damp to hot, wet, and humid environments
  • Must be able to reach, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs
