Position Objective:

The Sanitation Department Lead is accountable to ensure the safe, smooth and effective operations of the sanitation teams. They must be highly familiar with QA compliance & testing, auditing to ensure appropriate documentation of processes, possess strong mechanical aptitude & ability, as well as the ability to effectively train, lead and direct the work of their team. He/she assures the highest degree of cleanliness of our candy production equipment and areas, ensuring the safety of our product and an acceptable BRC audit results in area of responsibility. He/she maintains strict compliance with all FDA, and Sweet Candy Company Food Safety and Sanitation Standards.

General Duties:

  • Is present and on-time for scheduled shift to ensure appropriate and timely support of facility operation
  • ALWAYS work safely, follow all safety protocols, ensure your team does the same so all our people go home in the same condition in which they arrived
  • Leads the culture of quality by always working in compliance with all GMP, Food Safety and Safety standards
  • Conduct yourself in a professional manner, treating all with respect resulting in an environment conducive to high morale and productivity
  • Communicates and collaborates constantly with Quality Assurance, and Production so that equipment is ready to run when production is scheduled
  • Conducts frequent systematic inspection and cleaning of all assigned facility equipment so that allergen control is effective, risk of cross contamination is removed and production is ready to run when scheduled
  • Safely operates all required PIVs including “lifts” and can safely and effectively work at height
  • Identifies areas of improvement, develops and executes action plans so that Continuous Improvements are successful
  • Work collaboratively with all departments ensuring quick response to requests and support a culture of quality and cleanliness throughout facility
  • Liaison for and manages external sanitation services ensuring compliance with all GMPS and BRC guidelines.
  • Act as subject matter expert as it pertains to the sanitation of the facility and equipment

Team Supervision

  • Manage day to day activities and performance of sanitation team
  • Optimizes team through hiring, training, coaching, and discipline resulting in a stronger, more engaged team with fewer safety and HR incidence
  • Appropriately schedules team to complete all assigned work with little to no overtime
  • Approve time cards and manage annual employee evaluations
  • Trains or assigns mentors/trainers for new employees and temps so that all working in dept. know what is expected, and are trained appropriately to achieve positive results safely
  • Train new and existing employees on sanitation related SOPs

Chemical/Supplies

  • Source effective and cost effective sanitation chemicals and cleaning supplies.
  • Track and maintain adequate sanitation chemical and equipment inventory levels.
  • Safely utilizes industrial cleaning chemicals, following all HAZCOMM, SDS and food contact surface cleaning procedures to ensure the safety of the product produced
  • Develops and implements sanitation hazard assessments, audits and improvements
  • Maintain sanitation supplies and equipment in a “ready-to-use” state

Inspection/Audit

  • Develop and maintain Master Sanitation Schedule
  • Generate sanitation SOPs where required.
  • Perform post sanitation inspection and testing ensuring equipment and food contact surfaces are free of contaminants and ready to run candy
  • Audit daily sanitation documentation and maintain in “audit-ready” state
  • Complete all necessary paperwork as required on time and in a thorough, audit-ready manner

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall support for plant as requested
  • Assist with equipment preventative maintenance as needed/requested
