Requirements: An Associate of Science or Arts in Medical or Industrial Safety is required. A Bachelor of Science Degree in same disciplines is preferred. 6 Years of experience as a safety supervisor / manager, OSHA Inspector, or safety auditor is required. Preferred education plus three years of experience will be accepted in lieu. Specialized or technical knowledge, credentials or licensing required for the position include:

  • Working knowledge of Occupational Safety Health Administration (O.S.H.A.) requirements
  • Experience handling workers&##39; compensation
  • process safety management (PSM) and ergonomics concepts and programs.

Responsibilities: The purpose of this position is to ensure a safe work environment and to maintain and continuously improve the safety/ergonomics programs within the complex in accord with the company&##39;s safety policies. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Administer, update, implement, and monitor safety and security policies, programs and procedures and to coordinate and monitor the ergonomics program. Critical is the ability to influence, control, and get action from individuals associates and mangers which this position has no direct reporting relationship.
  • Provide education and instruction to facilities as it relates to the safety and ergonomics programs and information to management through the use of audits, loss per capita, and loss incident reports. Critical is getting managers to take ownership.
  • Coordinate with the Plant Senior Nurse regarding case management of company related injuries and illnesses and with Corporate Safety Department as needed,
  • Liaison to the property protection insurance company, and pay any other consultant as it relates to Safety/Ergonomics. Prevention is the critical element to any safety, ergonomics or security program.
  • Audit and periodically inspect all areas and report to ensure compliance with safety standards set forth in the Corporate Safety Policy/Procedures Manual and applicable laws.
  • Ensure that all unsafe acts and conditions are corrected in a timely manner, all worker&##39;s compensation claims are legitimate and all paperwork is properly completed in a timely manner and all ergonomic programs are being conducted as prescribed.
  • Develop and/or maintain all records required to prove compliance with all laws and programs in the areas of safety, worker&##39;s compensation, and ergonomics. Monitor associate discipline relating to safety matters.
  • Coordinates safety meetings, safety training, hearing conservation, ergonomics training, ergonomics awareness and education program, and the safety parts of the New Hire Orientation Program. Serve as a member of the complex&##39;s regularly scheduled safety meetings and Safety Steering Committee.
  • Ensure weekly checks of the plant fire protection system and fire pump are made and properly recorded. Verify monthly that all OBA equipment hasbeen checked and the seals are intact as well as fire extinguisher and fire hoses. Record all checks and inspections.
  • Monitor required personal protection programs and the activities of the complex&##39;s emergency response teams.
  • Be responsible for the Process Safety Management Program for the Complex. Ensure safety-training programs are conducted as needed.
  • Ensure required OSHA Injury and Illness record keeping and reporting requirements are met and maintained as appropriate.
  • Ensure ergonomics programs are conducted and that job rotations are implemented and monitored.
  • Maintain procedures for issuing, obtaining, renewing and wearing identification cards (ID) for all associates in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Maintain record of traffic flow on visitors entering the facilities and vehicles entering and exiting the secured areas. Ensure security for building andgrounds in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Ensure investigations are completed and processed on a timely basis. Ensure security officers are inspecting parcels or packages entering and leaving the buildings and whenever necessary inspect automobiles on premises.
  • Ensure all records and logs are maintained and updated as needed. Ensure visitor control programs are instituted and maintained. Ensure security officers maintain parking permit program and log permits in accordance with company policies where applicable.
  • Maintain log on master keys and subset key system.
  • Maintain procedures for handling of bomb threats.
  • Maintain rapport and act as liaison between local authorities and company.
  • Adhere to all safety requirements including PPE, preventing and reporting unsafe acts and conditions, Lockout-Tagout procedures and Process Safety Management related matters.
  • Ensure security officers protect company property against carelessness, negligence, malicious, mischief, theft, safety hazards, sabotage or fire.
  • Verify identifications of all associates, visitors and guests.
