SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Director of Research Chemistry, the Research Technician will assist with research activities, analysis and experimentation on commodities for such purposes as preserving the post-harvest quality and safety of agricultural commodities, determining the environmental fate of agrochemicals, post-harvest fumigation research and development, and the development / improvement of analytical methodologies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in method development and analysis of pesticide residues.
  • Performs small-scale post-harvest fumigation trials.
  • Conducts research, chemical and statistical analyses and prepares reports of findings.
  • Maintains compliance with applicable government regulations in all research and analytical activities.
  • Maintains a neat and clean working environment.
  • Works in a safe organized manner and informs manager of any safety concerns.
  • Works to ensure quality and efficient service to customers.
  • Maintains customer satisfaction and appropriate confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with ISO 17025 quality systems as related to laboratory analysis.
  • Operates and maintains laboratory instrumentation as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. With classes including analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis (or equivalents).
  • Strong knowledge and skills in laboratory chemistry techniques.
  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of chemistry instrumentation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Willingness to travel on occasion.
