Position Description

As a Research Associate, Cell Biology, you will be responsible for cultivating fish cells and conducting research under the direction of a supervisor as an integral member of the team working on cell culture media optimization and development. You will frequently collaborate with the members of the Cell Biology team. The successful candidate will pay attention to experimental details and perform assigned tasks under supervision to help achieve Finless Food’s mission. Salary and title will be commensurate with experience.

Key responsibilities

As the research associate, you will be responsible for:

  • Performing cell culture techniques including routine thawing, culturing, and freezing
  • Preparing cell culture media
  • Assisting in the design and execution of experiments using sound scientific principles to optimize cell culture conditions
  • Analyzing and quantifying media components and metabolic by-products; adjust media formulas to minimize the cost of material input and by-product output
  • Executing experiments and analyzing data to understand the cell culture nutrient demands, and fostering mechanistic understanding of roles and importance of key factors in the cell culture media
  • Analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data to your supervisor
  • Communicating effectively and presenting work-related results to your supervisor, project teams, and all functional groups

Experience, Skills, and Attributes

  • B.S. with 1+ years of experience or M.S. in cell biology or a related field
  • Experience in cultivating a variety of cell lines is desirable
  • Proven aseptic cell culture techniques and knowledge
  • Familiarity with standard cell proliferation and viability assays is a plus 
  • Familiarity with basic laboratory math skills for making solutions at certain concentrations, determining cell concentration, doubling time and seeding density is required
  • Experience in analytical data acquisition and analytical instrument maintenance is desirable
  • Resourceful, well organized, highly dependable, efficient, and detail-oriented
  • Excellent organization and communication skills, written and oral in English
  • Great team player with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Mission-drive and self-motivated, with excellent organization and time management skills

Work Environment/Physical Demands

This position involves working primarily in a laboratory setting. As such, this position requires the ability to stand or sit at the bench, lift laboratory equipment to 40 lbs, use standard laboratory equipment, and computers and office equipment. The position requires communication with other individuals through a variety of methods.
