Summary

This position will be responsible for all aspects related to Perdue Premium Meat Company (PPMC) product and nutrition claims, nutrition facts panels and label submittals to USDA as well as in house Generic label approvals for PPMC facilities and PPMC Co-Pack facilities. This position will also be responsible for creating and updating all product specifications and related documents for new and existing products for PPMC facilities and PPMC Co-Packers

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Regulatory Labeling (Primary):

  1. Responsible for all PPMC label submittals & approvals. Must have a working knowledge of USDA, AMS, FSIS, Regulatory requirements.
  2. Review & revise current procedures related to labeling, spec, nutrition facts panels, & sales fact sheets.
  3. Receive & process all conventional, natural, & organic labels.
  4. Interface with USDA, AMS, Animal Welfare & Organic Certifiers for clarification or modification of Program Policies.
  5. Work with Marketing on all new label approvals & redesigns.
  6. Input & maintain documentation for all label approval submissions, nutrition panels, & ingredient statements.
  7. In-plant label design using Label Matrix or similar software.
  8. Must have working knowledge & be proficient with Genesis Nutrition Software & be able to develop nutrition facts panels using data from Genesis Software, USDA Nutrition Databases and/or other analytical data overrides.

Specifications (In addition to all Regulatory labeling):

  1. Ensure all PPMC products have written requirements.
  2. Gather information for revisions & new specs, initiate the approval process, & provide access to copies of specs to appropriate associates.
  3. Ensure that all product specs are accurately maintained on the PPMC Server.
  4. Migration of all Coleman specs into the Perdue OPTIVA database.
  5. Responsible for all PPMC specifications in addition to all Co-Packer specifications.

Minimum Education

College degree and/or minimum of 5 years meat/poultry experience with at least 1 year of Regulatory Labeling experience.

MINIMUM: High school diploma or equivalent experience required & 7 years meat/poultry experience with at least three full years of Regulatory Labeling experience.

Experience Requirements

  1. General meat science knowledge is required.
  2. Strong verbal & written communication skills.
  3. Must have experience with USDA, AMS & Organic label regulations, & documentation requirements, as well as 3rd party food label certifications.
  4. Must be knowledgeable with FDA labeling regulations.
  5. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word & Access, as well as Genesis Nutrition Software.
  6. Basic understanding of statistical analysis is required.
  7. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while paying attention to detail.

Decision-Making Responsibilities

Authority to make decisions related to the completion of the above tasks. Higher approval is required for any spending & all decisions not addressed by this position description. Caution needs to be taken when issuing new/revised specs. Incorrect or incomplete product information could result in the product being produced out of compliance with customer and/or USDA requirements (potential for the product being reworked or condemned, product recall, losing the customer, deducts, production downtime, etc.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

  1. Position is partially sedentary but will require visits to the processing plant floor & occasional moving to other offices or buildings; including possible visits to other PPMC facilities & PPMC Co-Packer sites.
  2. Work activity is in an office & plant floor environment.
  3. When in a plant environment:

  • Exposure primarily consists of wet & moist floors which include metal & plastic grating surfaces.
  • May be exposed to temperatures of -10 degree to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient & 100% humidity.
  • May handle product 0 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.
  • May be exposed to all chemicals found in meat/poultry, food, & processing plant.

Must wear & use protective & safety equipment required for the job, as directed by the Company
