R&D Thermal Process Scientist:

Assists in the thermal processing development/data collection of new products and refinement of existing ones. In addition, this position assists with formulation of new and existing products, leads pilot plant scale-up activities and plant trials, completes technical reviews of product labels, creates nutrition fact sheets, and develops product specifications.

What an average day looks like:

  • Help with data collection, validation and distribution studies issued by Thermal Process Authority.
  • Performs testing and data analysis to help resolve deviations from the manufacturing plants
  • Assist with cooker recipe entries and scale-up in all manufacturing plants
  • Help with FDA files and posting creation; routing them for approval
  • Ensure the formulation of new food products including, stove top recipes, preparation of lab samples, sourcing raw materials and ingredients.
  • Independently design and execute experiments using technical knowledge and experimental design principals. Coordinate and execute plant trials and prepare results for review.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor&##39;s degree in Food Science, Food Engineering or Chemical Engineering (B. A. or B.S.) from four-year College or university.
  • Five years related experience and/or training.
  • Thermal process experience is desired.
  • Product development experience with any of the following: sauces, savory foods, canned goods, pasta.
  • Benchtop prototype development work based on sensory analysis.


  • Has passion for innovation and challenging the status quo.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Able to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Apply mathematical operations to tasks , determine test reliability, analyse variance and correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several variables.
