POSITION SUMMARY
The R&D Scientist is responsible for understanding and articulating consumers&##39; needs and translating them into technical requirements and consumer models to drive business impact. The incumbent will leverage critical and technical thinking and scientific method skills to bring together consumer needs and product possibilities into winning, and creative innovation. The Scientist has a defined area of technical expertise and a consistent track record of key innovations with important business impacts. He/she initiates and leads technology or capability advances and may be assigned the most important business and technical challenges.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Requires in-depth technical knowledge and experience
  • Uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve products or services
  • Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective using existing solutions
  • Works independently, with guidance in only complex situations (e.g., when decisions have functional or organizational impact)
  • Generally, acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience; may formally or informally manage a small number of individuals in own area of expertise
  • Impacts a range of customer, operational, project or service activities within own team and other related teams; works generally independently within broad guidelines and processes
  • Requires conceptual and practical expertise in own discipline and basic knowledge of related disciplines
  • Partners with team members to develop key tasks and project plans for timely completion of goals
  • Demonstrate creativity
  • Ability to develop an appropriate learning plan and technical timeline; time management skills to stay on track with both
  • Ability to properly document and report results, conclusions, recommendations, and development progress
  • Understanding of basic intellectual property, patent processes, and legal considerations


SELECTION CRITERIA
Education

  • A Bachelor&##39;s Degree in Science, Technology, or Engineering is required; an advanced degree is preferred

Experience

  • Depending on degree type/level, 3 to 12 years of relevant experience is required
  • Pet food experience is strongly preferred, as is in-depth knowledge/experience in Meat Science
  • Experience with formulation of food and related formulation software is preferred

Other

  • Approximately 30% travel is required
  • Expertise with MS Office software (Excel, Outlook, Word, and Power Point)
  • Walk, stand or sit for extended periods
  • Work and move freely and safely around manufacturing processes and equipment
  • This position is not currently eligible for company work visa sponsorships
