Job Description

As a Product Development (PD) Intern, you will have the unique opportunity to apply food science principles to meet project objectives. Our team has deep technical expertise across a variety of food products. You can expect a combination of stimulating projects, exposure to industry experts, on-the-job learning alongside experienced professionals, continuous development opportunities, and much more. The intern will work independently and as part of various teams, toward goals on project assignments with guidance provided as needed with the intent of offering opportunities to develop advanced knowledge and skills.

A Quality Assurance (QA) Intern can expect a unique opportunity working with multiple quality departments across the TreeHouse network. Projects will include working and learning with the Corporate Food Safety teams as well as one or two of our manufacturing facilities. The intern can expect immersion into multiple disciplines, be exposed to numerous unique situations and work with some highly experienced and skilled professionals. The individual projects, (up to five), assigned will be thought provoking and insightful for an individual new to the working world of food safety and quality assurance. The intern will receive a dedicated mentor who will help guide through the THS experience.

Example of PD projects:

New product development; concept/prototype work

Cost savings initiatives; ingredient substitution/formula manipulation

Current product renovation; modifying existing product to address operational issues or customer needs

Example of QA projects:

Food safety projects involving microbiological hazard including pathogenic and spoilage organisms

Manufacturing food safety plans and hazard analysis

Economically adulterated foods in the food industry

FDA or USDA regulatory laws

Statistical analysis as it relates to quality food production

Supplier compliance in regards to food safety and quality

Experience an intern will gain:

Project leadership

How the corporate structure setup works

Understand the purpose and functions QA plays across the THS network

Exposure to food safety plans built by food manufacturing facilities

Understanding the role/function of ingredients within a formula

Exposure to manufacturing equipment to understand impact of process conditions and controls

Presentation of findings to a broad audience

Work with cross functional team members and understanding how each role impacts the commercialization of a product
