Job Summary

Manage all aspects of quality control in a nutritional premix facility. Review, author and develop quality processes as they relate to the analytical laboratory and quality control. Manages all activities of the Quality Control laboratory in the analyses of raw materials and finished products.

Essential Functions

  • Reports to Senior Quality Assurance Manager, Manages internal West Haven laboratory and quality control staff.
  • Supervises the inspection and release of raw materials and finished products.
  • Oversees the testing of all incoming materials and finished blends for conformance to established specifications.
  • Experience with UPLC, LC/MS, UV/VIS, ICPMS, ICP-OES and Titration to test products and develop methods.
  • Manages out of specification investigation process including corrective actions.
  • Manages deficient materials review process and ensures materials are investigated and dispositioned in a timely manner.
  • Maintains laboratory inventory and procedures to ensure accurate, timely and cost effective analysis of materials and products.
  • Coordinates with Manufacturing to resolve quality issues and drive quality improvement throughout the facility.
  • Ensures compliance to all quality requirements to meet audit standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Conducts quality investigations to determine the disposition of suspect raw material or finished product including communicating with various departments, customers and vendors.
  • Coordinates the accuracy and timeliness of the testing of retain samples and its tracking system.
  • Trains and mentors key direct reports to effectively manage the functional areas of responsibility and safety.
  • Monitors and report on key quality measures.
  • Maintain quality control documentation.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BS Food Science, chemistry or related degree, A minimum of 3-5 years related QC and management experience.
  • Ability to work with vitamins, mineral, amino acids, and fine chemicals in powder and liquid form as well as allergen products.
  • Experience with analytical laboratory testing.
  • Experience with LIMS software is preferred
  • Experience with writing and maintaining SOPs
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Must have demonstrably strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Knowledge of ISO 17025 Standards
  • Independent, proactive, extremely detail oriented, dependable, organized and ability to handle multiple tasks. Ability to work in fast paced deadline orientated environment.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to include overtime and weekends when needed.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while remaining productive at all times.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment by identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Ability to stay positive and calm in difficult and/or trying circumstances.
  • Well organized and self-directed individual focused on achieving the organizational goals and initiatives

Typical Environmental Conditions

  • May be exposed to moderate to high noise levels (i.e. production equipment, forklifts, heavy traffic).
  • May be exposed to humidity, fumes and toxic chemicals.
  • May work in areas with mechanical moving parts, above ground with risk of fall, or areas with risk of electrical shock.

Travel Requirements

  • Potential for periodic domestic travel (~10%)
