Job Title: Quality Assurance Director

The Quality Assurance Director is ultimately responsible for product safety and quality that will meet or exceed compliance with all food regulations and certifications. The position will lead the company’s effort to ensure product quality and compliance through cross-functional initiatives, including driving company-wide continuous improvement efforts, specific projects and development of the quality team. The Director will champion quality and food safety initiatives to create a Food Safety culture and mindset.

Basic Functions:

Quality Standards – The QA Director is responsible for the quality of products and processes by establishing and enforcing quality standards. Based on internal as well as external requirement the QA director will assist together with members of management in the implementation of raw-material, in-process and finished product standards including testing methods, disposition requirements, inspection procedures and relevant training. The Director shall support continuous Improvement with standardized work, science-based problem solving and utilizing real time tools to predict quality attributes. Implement SPC, control charts, visual management, and other lean manufacturing tools.

Policy Rules and Regulations – The QA Director shall be responsible to keep apprised of all rules and regulations related to Product Safety for the products produced by Silva International, Inc. and create policies and procedures which will ensure compliance with those rules and regulations. In addition, the QA Director shall review and update policy and procedures for the Food Safety Program, which will provide for continuous improvement and proactively reduce and eliminate food safety risks.

Quality Program Oversight – QA Director is responsible for oversight of all Quality Control Programs. These include, but are not limited to, all prerequisite and operational programs required for the Food Safety Management System, HACCP, Pest Control, Sanitation, Environmental Monitoring, Product Specifications, Internal Audits, Lab analysis, Product Inspection and Certificates of Analysis. In addition, shall ensure that all Quality systems are reviewed on an annual basis for program updates and communication of changes to the QA program through staff training are completed, so that changes and updates are fully implemented and monitored. The QA Director shall ensure that the food safety management system is established, implemented, and maintained. Will ensure the plan is updated regularly and report on the effectiveness and suitability of this system to the Executive Leadership Team.

Food Safety Team Leader – QA Director is responsible to provide oversight and direction for the Food Safety Team and its’ related duties and tasks. Director will be responsible for food safety, food quality, within the company. QA Director shall manage the Food Safety Team and organize its’ work and ensure relevant training and education of the food safety team members, with the assistance of the QA Manager. The Director will also ensure an effective process for CAPA based on any internal and external issues identified through the execution of the Quality Control Programs.

Product Recalls – The QA Director shall coordinate and execute recall responses in accordance with Regulatory Requirements, Silva Crisis Management and Recall Policies.

Customer/Regulatory Audits/Technical Data Requests – Provide oversight for Customer Audits and be primary contact for Regulatory and Certification Audits, with the assistance of the QA Manager.

Supervision - QA Director will provide oversight and establish goals for QA Department employees, with the assistance of the QA Manager. QA Director shall ensure that all staff is properly trained as needed to meet Food Quality and Safety standards.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Bachelor Degree in Science (Food Safety, Microbiology, Biology or related field) with Master of Science preferred
  2. Minimum of 10 years in a Quality or related position, with minimum 7 years in managerial positions
  3. Proven experience in developing quality programs under GFSI schemes and implementation of requirements under FSMA – 3rd party certification preferred
  4. Strong analytical skills – experience with Statistical Process Control, SQL and advanced MS Excel preferred
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  6. Excellent organizational skills
