Quality Assurance Supervisor

COMMENTS: The Quality Systems Supervisor will work for Mizkan America, Inc. at the Owensboro, Kentucky (Ragu) sauce plant. The plant is a high speed processing and packaging facility which produces sauces for both the Ragu and Bertolli pasta sauce brands. This is an exempt position.This position reports to the Quality Manager. This job description reflects assignment of essential functions. It does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the supervision, direction and planning of the Quality Assurance program, product testing, HOLD and release program and compliance with the established budget. This position will also support Quality Manager and Quality Systems Supervisor in team development, training standards, policy & audit ready compliance, continuous improvement standards, while assuring compliance with all Federal, State and local regulations related to food safety and occupational safety.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Compliance with all site safety, food safety, quality assurance and continuous improvement standards to follow and meet
  • Supervise and control of product HOLD and release process, administration of non-conforming goods control to ensure only safe and quality finished products are released through internal process audits
  • Develop and maintain vendor partnerships to ensure continuous improvement in quality and cost of service in components. Supervise the Inspection of incoming raw and packaging material for compliance, coordinate and communicate with material suppliers and vendors for any noncompliance issues
  • Oversee the resolution of product/process non-conforming incidents and verifying the effectiveness of corrective and preventative actions to eliminate reoccurrence through RCA and Corrective Actions
  • Deliver results to meet KPIs and budget planning, develops plans and activities to meet quality and financial targets
  • Interface and provide consultation and support with corporate Quality, R&D and Continuous Improvement functions
  • Support all scheduled and unscheduled regulatory audits and maintain the plant in audit ready conditions
  • Ensure that the site is in full compliance with all local, state and Federal regulations required by FDA and USDA
  • Provides leadership to the production, maintenance planning, shipping and receiving teams for product quality
  • Other job duties as required

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS degree in biology, food science, or related field
  • 5 - 7 years experience in food manufacturing environment
  • Flexibility to work any shift or time to meet demands of the position
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple priorities proactively and re-prioritize
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and quickly initiate actions required to resolve problems
  • Must be able to make quick decisions while collaboratively analyzing and pinpointing problems
  • Meet annual objectives and KPIs to reduce losses through effective Continuous Improvement practices
  • Possess a proven track record of leading teams and individuals to maximum potential and outcome
  • Experience working in a high-speed packaging or processing plant
  • 2 3 years of Supervisory experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of FDA, USDA, State regulations is preferred
  • Experience with Good Manufacturing Practices is a preferred
  • Knowledge of Acidified and Low Acid Products is preferred
  • Experience with Process Deviation Analysis is preferred
  • Food Safety Auditing experience is preferred
  • Retort Processing is preferred
  • Continuous Improvement is preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong Computer Literacy skills
  • Ability to travel when needed
  • Willingness and flexibility to adapt to changing business needs and deadlines
  • Ability to exhibit a professional business-like appearance and demeanor
