Job Description:

The Project Engineer plays an integral role within supply chain leadership and is accountable for the overall technical health of the facilities in their charge. Objectives of this role include but are not limited to the following: driving improvement in reliability, increasing plant capacity and/or capabilities, supporting continuous improvement strategies, reducing manufacturing costs, improving food safety and quality, reducing risks to employee health and safety, and delivering against the organization's sustainability targets all while growing their talent and leadership skills. These objectives will be executed through capital and non-capital means by leveraging a team that can include indirect reports, 3rd party resources, and/or other TreeHouse cross-functional team members.

With respect to the capital enabled work, the Project Engineer will be expected to lead the development and execution of site master plans for their assigned facilities; manage assigned sites' monthly capital cash flow; deliver and report on project execution at assigned facilities; manage dotted line and contract resources; and determine the optimized technical and business solutions that will continue to separate TreeHouse Foods from our competition. This includes leading and/or project managing single and multiple capital projects simultaneously with combined budgets of $6m in annual capital spend across several sites. The Project Engineer will be accountable for all aspects of capital project management, including but not limited to the following: developing the project scope; creating the initial screening level estimate; preparing and presenting the business case; managing the final project approval process; partnering with capital procurement; creating and adhering to the project schedule; communicating project status updates; managing the final design and construction phases; leading the commissioning, qualification and validation phases; and closing out the project.

This position requires management of external and internal resources and influencing cross-functional stakeholders as well as effectively resolving issues and managing conflict. The individual must have a good working knowledge of technology employed in the food industry and would also have an understanding of how the application of the technologies impacts their stakeholders .

Position Responsibilities:

This person will be for the plants they are assigned and serve
  • Responsible for multiple locations and have in-depth understanding of the business side of a "Food Company"
  • Able to effectively communicate with and lead cross-functional resources
  • The direct manager for external engineering employees and accountable for their results. In addition, they will have a vested interest in their on-going professional development.
  • Accountable for ensuring the cost reduction and sustainability objectives are delivered.
  • Accountable for effective capital and capital related expense planning, stewardship and execution.
  • A generator of ideas to deliver against supply chain and business objectives.
  • An extension of assigned facilities' leadership teams
  • The Project Engineer will be expected to lead multiple initiatives simultaneously across several sites in the US and/or Canada.
  • This position interacts frequently with leadership positions within and outside the supply chain function.
  • This person will develop and review business case screening scopes and estimates with the leadership team to provide a directional view of a project
  • This person will be responsible for ensuring that all project planning, deliverables, reporting, and spending forecasts are managed accurately and that all projects are delivered within cost, schedule, with no service issues while delivering the agreed performance success criteria.
  • External interaction will include, but is not limited to, the following: equipment vendors, construction contractors, engineering services contractors, local / state / federal government agencies, and co-manufacturing organizations.
  • This person is recognized as a technical leader and an expert in project and initiative management and has demonstrated significant accomplishments and contributions to meet business initiatives.
  • The role will involve on-site troubleshooting, including leading teams through root cause problem solving.
  • The Project Engineer must understand sanitary design best practices


Qualifications and Requirements:
  • BS in an Engineering discipline.
  • 3-5 years of Project Management experience that includes successfully managing several capital projects totaling $6m per year.
  • Demonstrated track record of driving substantive improvement in key KPI's such as cost reduction, reliability, and material loss reduction.
  • Preferred candidate will have plant experience in operations, maintenance, and/or engineering
  • Formal project management training or certifications are a plus.
