Job Overview:
The Project Engineer will be responsible for the design, budget, direct, coordinate, and manage activities relating to capital and engineering projects from concept to closure in support of the entire operations group. This position will manage projects in all areas, including; facility construction, processing system design and installation, packaging equipment installation, and utilities. They will be responsible for managing all areas of capital projects from; conceptual design, cost estimation, equipment selection, project schedule, cost management, contractor management, project commissioning, and project closeout. This position will also assist in the design of, implementation of, and resource allocation for the maintenance of existing equipment and production facilities.

Key Functions and Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for multi-million dollar capital project initiation, development, and implementation that may range in scope and complexity from minor facility improvements to major capital initiatives. These projects will range from process and efficiency improvements to development and installation of new equipment.

  • Collaborate with multiple departments including Senior Management, Corporate Engineering, Maintenance, IT, HR and Finance to complete projects to improve operational efficiencies and capabilities.

  • Develop and maintain plant drawings, P&IDs, etc.

  • Assist in developing department plans, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.

  • Maintain current reports on work progress, costs and scheduling on all active projects assigned and attends meetings to respond to the same.

  • Attend meetings related to plant operations to assure all production needs are supported

  • Remain current with latest technological advancements as well as environment and regulatory compliance laws.

  • Maximization of efficiency through analysis of physical layout, work flow, assembly methods and workforce utilization. Actively organize and review process for continuous improvement.

  • Examining and tendering for new equipment to support all of operations functions. Direct company resources toward the most efficient maintenance of equipment.

  • Evaluate the design of new processes during product and/or equipment roll-out and evaluate/implement existing concepts and best-in-class manufacturing techniques.

  • Ensure solutions achieve required quality levels, reliability, and consistency.

  • Ensure all plant preventative maintenance programs comply with accepted and approved federal and state regulations and corporate goals.

  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all procedures and projects.

  • Promote safety through work procedures, and employee safety programs.

  • Assist in developing engineering department plans, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.

  • Attend operational meetings to assure all current and future production needs are supported.

  • Teach, lead and continuously improve all areas of the business. Act as a technical resource to plant leadership team on technical issues.

  • Coordinate with Sanitation to ensure plants and equipment meet regulatory requirements for cleanliness and product safety.

Skills and Experience:

  • 5+ years of Project Engineering, Reliability Engineering or System Engineering experience required.

  • Experience in Food Processing or Manufacturing preferred.

  • Experience in Total Productive Maintenance tools and execution of these tools preferred.

  • Project Management experience as a hands-on project manager from concept to closure on-time and on-budget for multi-million dollar capital projects.

  • Understands the unique equipment in a bakery production plant, along with operation of that equipment relative to the baking process. Ability to trouble shoot equipment to ensure optimum product quality is achieved.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals

  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment.

  • Ability to speak effectively with employees, vendors, and customers

  • LEAN Manufacturing and/or LEAN Six Sigma experience preferred

  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office Suite, Visio, MRP and database management software

  • Proficiency with CAD and 3D modeling, and print reading

  • Strong communication skills, demonstrated leadership skills, relationship building, and group facilitation skills.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

  • Ability to Travel up to 60% of the time.


  • Bachelor&##39;s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering required.

  • Master Degree Preferred
