Project Engineer

REPORTS TO
Plant Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY
Execute capital improvement projects to increase capacity, provide new product capability, reduce costs, or improve reliability, quality, and/or safety results.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop capital project recommendations based on engineering studies, loss analyses, and department requests
  • Develop project plans that define scope, schedule, budget, and business impact and risks; execute plans while identifying issues and obstacles and collaborating with resources to resolve
  • Charter and lead effective cross-functional project teams
  • Develop detailed equipment specifications, gaining input from operational and maintenance resources
  • Lead factory acceptance tests (FAT&##39;s) to ensure new equipment meets specifications
  • Manage project budgets and schedules using company data and software systems
  • Provide engineering and technical support to the operation to solve problems; assess critical information and apply logic and structured problem-solving techniques to make effective decisions or recommendations
  • Effectively manage engineering and construction contractors
  • Provide leadership for an HSE (Health, Safety Environmental) Key Element system
  • Investigate, test, and validate new technology for use in improving plant equipment or results
  • Work with operational startup leaders to conduct CQV (Commissioning, Qualification, and Verification) plans for new equipment systems or processes
  • Develop Request for Proposals (RFP&##39;s) and bid analyses to evaluate and select contractors and equipment vendors
  • Update AutoCAD drawings or ensure completion by engineering contractors or in-house CAD designer; ensure project documentation is complete and organized
  • Lead or assist in plant experiments and testing to determine equipment capability or feasibility for new products or improvements

SELECTION CRITERIA
Education

  • A Bachelor&##39;s degree in Engineering is required; a Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering degree is preferred

Experience

  • At least 5 years of project management experience is required
  • Experience at directing engineering contractors and construction contractors in the field
  • Food processing or packing experience is preferred

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technology
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and projects
  • Proven ability to complete projects on time and within budget
  • AutoCAD skills desired
  • Ability to teach others
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Interest in manufacturing management as a future assignment
  • Willingness to travel
  • Willingness to relocate for future opportunities
