Production Manager

The Production Manager will have the following job responsibilities:

  • Direct and coordinate daily operations of the manufacturing plant
  • Oversee all levels of plant floor staff activity and performance
  • Develop processes to increase productivity and enhance performance
  • Work closely with maintenance to ensure equipment is repaired or replaced as needed
  • Ensure company policies and procedures are followed at all times
  • Work closely with Quality Department to ensure proper employee participation
  • Screen, interview and manage the onboarding process of new hires
  • Provide training and educational materials to staff as necessary
  • Mentor 2nd Shift Manager, Supervisors and Team Leads to improve their leadership capabilities
  • Monitor equipment and ensure that it is in good working order
  • Manage and supervise all daily plant operations
  • Address workplace performance and disciplinary issues
  • Observe production activities on a daily basis to build rapport with employees
  • Monitor compliance rosters and scheduling to efficiently utilize the available workforce
  • Develop on the job training program for all positions
  • Participate in annual employee training to ensure compliance with quality system requirements
  • Participate in GMP and Facility Audits
  • Serve in a leadership role and actively participate on all teams
  • Respond to reports of suspicious activity related to food defense

Technical Qualifications:

General Requirements:

  • Provide leadership to position the company at the forefront to the dairy industry
  • Oversee operations for production efficiency, quality, service and management of resources
  • Work cooperatively in a team environment to ensure safe, quality food production
  • Develop positive working relationships with personnel
  • Work requires excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven experience working in plant operations required
  • Good understanding of regulatory requirements for operating plants
  • Strong aptitude for root cause analysis and troubleshooting operational issues
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and computer technology
  • Familiar with operating plant equipment safely and efficiently
  • Strong leadership and managerial attributes
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
  • Able to sit, stand and walk around for long periods at a time

Quality Control Requirements:

  • Knowledge of and ability to follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Complete understanding of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and its importance
  • Follow and monitor to assure all Safe Quality Food (SQF) guidelines are implemented and followed

NOTE:  Required to immediately initiate action to address food safety problems or concerns


  • Be aware of and follow up to date OSHA regulations that apply to the tasks in your job
  • Practice safe lifting techniques, bending and lifting with your legs, not your back
  • Pivot with your feet avoiding twisting at the waist
  • Be aware of your surroundings, watching for forklift traffic and trip hazards such as pallets or cords when entering the production area
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when entering the production area
  • Maintain proper guards and safety devices when working with machinery and on catwalks
  • Maintain excellent personal hygiene and wear appropriate apparel for the job


  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
  • Better Process Cheese School
  • HACCP Certified
