Job Description:

A manufacturing company in southeast South Dakota is seeking a Production Lead/Utility to join their team. Reporting to the Shift Supervisor the Production Lead is responsible for supporting and driving management’s daily objectives and assignments and monitor work activities for assigned department.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work safely and comply with and enforce all company and regulatory safety/environmental policies, practices and procedures
  • Promote and lead continuous improvement in safety, quality, and time performance and key performance indicators (KPI’s)
  • Plan and verify materials needed for future production runs daily based on the production schedule
  • Provide training to new/existing employees and ensure all facility equipment is operated correctly based on machine-specific SOPs
  • Perform control checks at each work station, especially during changeovers, to verify company quality standards
  • Monitor equipment and manufacturing process; adjust the flow of production to maintain production standards
  • Perform basic operator troubleshooting and communicate any accidents, threats, or downtime to shift supervisor
  • Keep all areas are safe, clean, and organized throughout shift to maintain safety and product quality
  • Ensure all necessary paperwork is completed and being used according to SOPs; collect and review documentation at shift end
  • Train and assist in other departments or throughout facility to provide additional coverage or leadership, as needed

DESIRED PROFILE:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • AS degree or applicable certifications, preferred
  • 1-3 years experience in manufacturing/machine operation; preferably food manufacturing
  • Advanced written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and attention to detail
  • Strong sense of initiative and problem-solving with the ability to manage time and deadlines with little supervision
  • Ability to understand and operate basic computer systems; proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a routine basis
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb, frequently
  • Ability to handle hot and cold conditions (must dress according to weather) and be aware of any wet floors or other hazards
