Product Manager – Vanilla

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

  • You will be responsible for performance of the vanilla product line including growth of the business and own the strategies for current and future development opportunities for company’s vanilla portfolio
  • The Product Manager is responsible for assessing the market, targeting opportunities with current and prospective clients, and technologies related to the vanilla product line
  • This includes developing a technical understanding of product offerings, defining the product vision, assessing the marketplace for potential, gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements
  • Creating and maintaining customer contracts and working closely with cross-functional members in Research & Development to deliver winning products
  • Additional cross-functional work with Technical, Sales, Marketing, Regulatory, and Operations to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met
  • Drives the development associated with the vanilla product line and projects including:
    • Product profiles and offerings
    • Commercialization
    • Pricing and gross margin, forecasts
    • research & development
    • marketing, customer service, legal, production

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead customer contract renewal process consistent with organizations financial objectives, designing the pricing strategy, communications, elements, and market approach
  • Work with procurement on management of vanilla ingredients needs
  • Responsible for preparing product forecasts and annual budgets of vanilla product line
  • Responsible for driving sustainability strategy for Vanilla production
  • Provide the sales team with the necessary expertise to enable them to sell pure vanilla extract and Natural Vanilla Flavors
  • Accountable for identifying market segments for vanilla, measuring the purchasing power of these segments, understanding the product performance and features these segments require
  • Evaluating the competitive offerings in these segments, and translating the requirements of these market segments to company’s Value Proposition
  • Continuously assess company capabilities to determine market fit and translating current and future needs into company capabilities

EXPERIENCE:

  • Ideally five+ years’ experience in product management, business development, category marketing and/or sales
  • Experience in the ingredients or flavors, or other related industry required
  • Project management experience is crucial
  • Experience directing cross-functional teams to oversee profitability of products (existing and newly developed products)
  • Budgeting and forecasting experience – expenses and capital requirements for product projects
  • Strong product development, strategic planning, marketing, and project management skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with ability to influence cross-functional team members, as well as senior management
  • Proven leadership abilities and strong presence
  • In-depth knowledge of the flavor and food ingredient global marketplace. Knowledge of dairy related markets desired but not essential
  • Leadership by influence, driver of results with a strong backbone to present data that backs up initiatives
  • Positive engagement with colleagues, can-do attitude, willingness to go the extra mile
  • Pride in company and products
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Must be able to successfully interface with all levels of the organization. Above-average presentation skills are required
  • Excellent knowledge and usage of Microsoft platform, cross-cultural communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter with high energy level and ability to think and act strategically
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%
