Job Summary

Directs and coordinates activities of associates and suppliers engaged in purchasing and distributing materials, equipment, and supplies across the Company

Essential Job Duties

  • Develops relationships with key suppliers and manages them to meet required expectations.

  • Prepares instructions regarding purchasing process and procedures associated with assigned categories.

  • Analyzes market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability, and prepares market analysis reports.

  • Develops a system to evaluate supplier quotations that utilizes appropriate negotiation and purchasing techniques to ensure quality, price, delivery, and service.

  • Manages and monitors procurement reporting systems to meet company requirements.

  • Recruits and maintains suppliers that provide high quality products and services at a better price while maintaining the highest code of ethics and conduct.

  • Prepares and issues contracts and blanket purchase orders.

  • Reviews purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.

  • Prepares and reviews contracts, bids, proposals, and supplier agreements for legal correctness, price, and acceptability of items to specifications.

  • Leverages knowledge of manufacturing capabilities and constraints of our vendors within a specific category. Stays up to date on new machinery, capabilities and technology.

  • Support needs and acts as liaison on behalf of manufacturing locations as it relates to supplier communication. Monitors expectations set forth by procurement.

  • Stays current on innovation and market trends associated with assigned categories.

  • Negotiates or supervises the negotiation of complex corporate procurement contracts.

  • May perform other duties as required.

Scope of Responsibility

This role is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned purchasing categories. The Procurement Manager is an authorized agent of the Company, empowered to commit Company funds and execute contracts for up to 1 year. The Procurement Manager oversees a minimum of $15 million procurement dollars in assigned purchasing categories.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, general contracts and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

  • Ability to develop effective presentations using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to interact with suppliers in a manner that fosters a mutually beneficial relationship.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram format.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Ability to analyze and interpret into a strategy.

  • Knowledge of Database software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software, Word Processing software, and PowerPoint software.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 5 years of purchasing experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Travel Required

Must be willing and able to travel overnight with occasional short notice.
