Job Description:

A manufacturing company in southeast South Dakota is seeking a Plant Superintendent to join their team. Reporting to the Complex Manager, the Plant Superintendent is responsible for operating processes and equipment in a safe, clean and effective manner to ensure the production of high-quality products while meeting all regulatory compliance requirements.


  • Work safely following all company safety policies, practices, procedures and improvement initiatives.
  • Comply with all regulatory compliance requirements including safety, environmental, and food/feed safety.
  • Responsible for maintaining optimum operation by assigning workers to daily tasks and / or projects, creating and keeping work and production schedules; directs and monitors shift supervisors’ activities and duties to ensure production schedules are met.
  • Directs and monitors the operation of all material handling and processing equipment to maintain a safe efficient operation.
  • Monitor the evaluation of incoming raw material for product quality; responsible for the quality control of the product prior to leaving the plant. Report any deviations to the Complex Manager.
  • Assist the Complex Manager in hiring, training and development of employees.
  • Responsible for collecting and analyzing data to find areas of improvement and eliminating waste.
  • Responsible for the health and safety of the plant employees.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots the production equipment to ensure that it is in good working order. Make recommendations to the Complex Manager for its repair or replacement.
  • Assists in coordinating plant maintenance with plant production schedules.
  • Works closely with the Complex Manager and Corporate Safety Department to ensure the plant operates in a safe manner.
  • Provides suggestions and input to the Complex Manager concerning process and equipment modifications to increase complex efficiencies and profitability.
  • Accurately and legibly record and maintains records as required.
  • Assist in the implementation of process and employee goals as directed by Complex Manager.


  • Bachelor’s degree or 2 years related experience/training
  • Proven managerial experience in manufacturing industry
  • Familiarity with industry standard equipment and technical expertise
  • Ability to create accountability and lead by example
  • Ability to function as an effective project manager and team leader to manage resources according to changing needs
  • Strong team building and decision-making skills
