SUMMARY:

Inspects and packs quality candy products in trays and containers. Labels, weighs and shrink wraps finished product. May be required to dig and supply creams to extruder, feed truffle dropper, or sift and transport garnish ingredients to enrober operator, and perform housekeeping duties as assigned. Primary job is packer, but required to perform any available utility work at leader discretion based upon crewing and scheduling requirements. Performing the utility duties will qualify for that rate of pay.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING. (OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED.

  • Sets up the line with all the essential supplies pertaining to production schedule.

  • Obtain center weights and remove candy if incorrect size or shape.

  • Inspect candy, and make decisions based on QA guidelines, contact leader immediately if quality problem arises.

  • Place candy product on layer board or tray and insert into 031 or 032 containers.

  • Weigh and label container and place on skid.

  • Perform specific assignments: place oyster cream in shells; roll truffles in garnish ingredients; place nuts on specific centers and monitor non-technical equipment for operator.

  • Form boxes and insert bags (when applicable).

  • Weigh and record excess chocolate, scrap, rework and place in appropriate location.

  • Sort and return 031 supplies to appropriate area.

  • Weigh and record pounds of candy being X-packed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Very attentive to detail.

  • Perform detailed steps and get repeatable results.

  • No allergies.

  • Equipment: Carl Fisher Moisture Analyzer, Colorimeter, Viscometer, Density, etc.

  • Ability to take sample, perform test, and communicate results in a timely manner.

  • Ability and willingness to work year round as needed.

  • Willing to be available on short notice and be available to work during non-production days.

  • Individual should demonstrate the kind of initiative to help define the role.

  • Ability to work closely with Mixer Cooks, Leads, Supervisor, Quality, & Process Development in problem solving.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Feed truffle balls into dropper device, using earliest day code first (FIFO).

  • Record total weight of truffle balls being enrobed and transfer any unused portion back to the cooler.

  • Assist operator by removing cream from the bowl and feed into extruder.

  • Sift and transport bins of garnish ingredients from reclaim area to enrobing room to be reused.

  • Follow all standard operating procedures (SOP).

  • Report problems regarding food safety to supervisor or manager.

  • Train new employees as required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and correspondence in English. Ability to effectively present information in a one-on-one and small group situation, and to other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10 s and 100 s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hand to finger, handle objects. Reach with hands and arms, stoop, talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus.

Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly, occasionally up to 50 pounds (utility job functions).

OTHER

This position requires some mechanical aptitude when performing utility functions.
