Work Monday through Friday and Overtime on Saturdays when required

Job Summary:

Maintains production and sanitary conditions by removing product from conveyor, inspecting product, hand packing into cartons, and performing described duties.

Reporting Relationship:

This position reports to the Team Leader. This position receives general supervision and works according to standards.

Essential Tasks:

Ensures that product is free from contamination by following rules of good manufacturing practices for disease control, personal practices, and uniform policy. Ensures product protection by checking package integrity for good seals, proper price, code date, tape color, and product quality according to standard procedures ##16 and ##17 of Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points (HACCP). Ensures good manufacturing procedures by following housekeeping standards. Works in a team to pack product by assembling boxes, taking sealed bags of product off automated conveyor line, taping boxes and placing on skid; pull sealed cases off automated packaging lines; or filling kegs and placing lids on containers. Stack sealed cases on skids according to stacking procedures under product pallet patterns and diagrams. Recognizes problems; shuts down machine and/or alerts machine operator according to standard procedures. Collects overruns in tubs and caddie bags and dumps as necessary according to standard procedures. Prepares cases for use on the next shift by stickering information on the side of the box to include brand name, quantity in case, weight of bag, product type, if no salt, and UPC code from back of the bag. Ensures efficient and quality production and positive employee relations by complying with all employment policies, rules, regulations, safety procedures, good manufacturing procedures, product protection standards and actively participating in all training requirements.

Additional Tasks:

Contributes to team effort by performing other assigned duties as needed. Maintains cooperative relationship with coworkers and management by communicating necessary information, responding to requests, building rapport; and participating in problem solving methods.

Job Qualifications

Essential knowledge, skills, abilities and experience:

Ability to keep up with fast-paced conveyor line.
Mental alertness to identify quality issues.
Ability to understand and follow standard procedures.
Ability to identify words and numbers.
Ability to work as a team player.
Ability to notify machine operators or supervisor of production problems.

Physical demands and Work Conditions:

Ability to work required shift, meet attendance requirements, and work overtime when required.
Ability to stand for long periods of time with the exception of breaks when employee can sit down.
Ability to walk short distances in an around packing area and around plant for general cleaning duties.
Ability to twist and reach to grab bags for packing. Simple grasping is used to take product from conveyor and place in box, which is placed on tables off the floor for back protection.
Ability to bend forward. Bending to the floor occurs when the employee is placing a box on the first layer of the skid.
Ability to lift 35 lb. Product weight ranges from 1 lb. bags 21 oz. kegs with boxes ranging from 12lb. to 30lb. Overrun tubs weigh up to 35lb. Employees are rotated and team members increased for certain production jobs to decrease ergonomics effect.
Ability to reach above shoulder height to stack boxes.
Ability to twist caps onto pretzel kegs.
Ability to distinguish colors for color-coded product tape.
Ability to stoop to clean under equipment.
