The Livonia Distribution Center, a 400,000 sq. ft. refrigerated facility operating 24/7; is currently seeking a Packaging Technician due to growth in our maintenance organization to join our team. In this role you will be responsible for set up and small adjustments to production machines, as well as visual inspection. They are responsible for keeping the area clean and organized as well as effectively communicating any problems with the machines, product or the department to the shift supervisor.

Day and Night openings available: 3 openings on day shift, 3 openings on night shift

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Start up, changeovers, and shutting down of packaging machines
  • Responsible for complete set-up of labeler and identify quality issues
  • Perform minor adjustments to packaging machinery under the supervision of production lead, production supervisor, and/or maintenance
  • Completion of production and equipment documentation as assigned
  • Routine preventive maintenance of equipment to include basic mechanical preventive inspections
  • Conduct maintenance visual inspections and machine lubrication as required by the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Periodic documentation and completion of Preventative Maintenance (PM) and operation specification checklists at the line.
  • Perform Quality checks on assigned packaging machine(s)
  • Maintain safety, quality and production standards

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous machine operating experience in a manufacturing facility is required
  • Basic understanding of set-up on multi-head scales, wrappers machines, printers & labelers preferred
  • Industrial packaging machine operating experience preferred
  • Detail oriented to be able to understand and quickly correct deviations in the process according to system design and upper and lower control limits.
  • Maintain the efficiency of assigned production line
  • Basic mathematic skills are required (addition, subtraction, multiplication)
  • Team player driven to succeed in a flexible fast-paced environment.
  • Complete background check and drug screening

Working Conditions:

  • Environment includes an expansive refrigerated warehouse, where the temperature averages 50°F.
  • The background noise approaches 70 dcbs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. with or without accommodation
  • Position requires sitting, standing, walking and bending, squatting, and crawling on a regular basis
