Job Description:

As a vital member of the Plant Leadership Team, the Maintenance Manager provides leadership and direction to the plant maintenance department including, but not limited to, maintaining all plant property and equipment, managing all aspects of equipment maintenance and reliability, reducing downtime through corrective and preventive maintenance, maintaining and improving product quality, improving plant safety, departmental budgeting, providing technical assistance as needed, employee development, and ensuring compliance to all federal, provincial and local laws and standards, as well as implementing and directing all departmental policies and procedures.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct salaried and hourly team members of the Maintenance Department in their roles and responsibilities to meet facility objectives in the areas of production, safety, quality, cost and customer service.
  • Manage day-to-day and strategic maintenance activities to achieve key business results. Work with the Plant Manager to assure production needs and changes can be met.
  • Direct plant maintenance programs to generate cost improvements in assets, processes, and material usage to reach annual performance goals.
  • Provide technical support for effective troubleshooting / problem solving activities and maintenance repair to maximize efficiencies and minimize downtime.
  • Provide leadership in the implementation and maintenance of preventive and predictive maintenance programs. Perform follow-up analysis to identify and resolve recurring operational issues.
  • Manage / implement CMMS, TPM and SMED programs.
  • Develop and implement the maintenance and capital budgets and manage department / project costs within budgetary guidelines.
  • Drive and support continuous improvement programs.
  • Drive employee engagement, training, and development to maximize production, safety, quality, cost and customer service objectives attainment.
  • Work closely with the EHS committee, ensuring the maintenance of a safe working environment and remain compliant with environmental regulations.
  • Ensure Company policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to within the department and facility.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local building / mechanical codes, health & safety regulations, environmental laws, and insurance company standards.


  • Bachelor&##39;s Degree or the demonstrated equivalent in directly related work experience.
  • 5-7 years&##39; experience leading a Plant Maintenance Department, preferably in a food processing environment. Experience working in a unionized environment a definite asset.
  • Technical skill requirements including PLC Control Systems, Utility Systems (compressed air, etc.), packaging and bake end equipment.
  • Problem solving, analytical, and trouble shooting skills required to identify and resolve manufacturing, procurement, and logistics issues.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in a Continuous Improvement environment.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiating / influencing skills.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Strong computer application skills, network and PC business application software.
  • Basic financial skills and understanding.
