Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this role is responsible for leading the maintenance team to achieve a safe and efficient manufacturing operation through hands-on continuous improvement and strong equipment reliability in a 24-hour food manufacturing facility.
Maintains and improves the reliability of facility systems and production equipment through the effective execution of corrective and preventive maintenance.Directs the repairing, rebuilding, testing, and replacing of faulty or inoperative components and equipment
- Effectively manages a team of 25 members through performance management, development planning, training, and coaching
- Manages time and attendance of the team ensuring hours of work and rest period guidelines are adhered to
Provides the resources (i.e. training, parts, direction and technical support) to ensure team members are at their best to drive the reduction of equipment downtime.
Manages maintenance repair, PM s and continuous improvement projects within budget
Ensures that maintenance work is performed according to trade standards and in a timely manner to improve equipment uptime
Works with Managers and Engineering department to resolve existing deficiencies and plans for future projects
Drives sense of urgency across his team to ensure that maintenance repairs, communication, response time, reporting, and PM orders are completed on a timely manner
Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following and enforcing company policies and procedures in compliance with all provincial and federal regulations
Ensures all required reports are complete and updated (daily, weekly, monthly); reports include government inspection reports, GMP, Safety Audits.
Supervises contractor s quality of work.Adheres to and enforces the company s contractor management program
Working knowledge of GMPs and Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements.
Communicates daily with all departments as to their needs regarding equipment safety and performance
Completes monthly safety/GMP Audits for maintenance areas: truck shop, boiler room, plants 1 & 2, machine shop, welding area, compressors, etc. Ensuring area is Audit ready.
Make recommendations to replace equipment and create RFQ s, define scope of work and obtain quotes.
Attends periodic health and safety, quality and production meetings, as required
Participates in special projects, other duties or tasks that may be assigned as required
Specialized training in a recognized Community College program or completed Trade certification (Multiple disciplines/Dual ticket an asset) or Engineering degree.
Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience/people management in a Maintenance environment, preferably in food or pharmaceutical manufacturing
- Computer literacy is a must. Experience with a CMMS and Microsoft Office required
- Exposure to TPM or a Lean Six Sigma environment would be an asset
- Strong technical knowledge of processing and packaging equipment, facilities systems, and ability to read and understand technical drawings
- Excellent planning, leadership abilities and ability to drive action
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
