The Planner/Scheduler is responsible for initiation of work orders in SAP, ordering required parts, planning work, staging parts, scheduling the work, capturing data from completed work orders in SAP.
The Planner/Scheduler supports the function of the plant maintenance group by developing job plans, research and requisition parts needed, continual review of Preventative Maintenance (PM) process, and participate in Breakdown Elimination Analysis on machinery. Evaluate data from downtime and stockroom reports to determine the most critical needs for repairs.
Principal Accountabilities

  • Is responsible for weekly as well as daily planning and scheduling of work orders. Develops, manages, and prints the weekly maintenance work schedule after coordination and prioritization of production in planning session.
  • Weekly planning involves the regular analysis of backlog work relative to available craft personnel and parts. Attends meetings with the production planning department and participates in the overall plant scheduling of the following week&##39;s work, and negotiates for downtime "windows" during which preventive and corrective maintenance requiring downtime can be performed.
  • Scheduling of and accounting for the time of all mechanics and ensuring that the work scheduled balances with the man-hours available so that a full day&##39;s work is provided each person.
  • Taking manpower schedule from leads to match with production priorities to produce weekly work schedules. Adjusts schedule on a daily basis for emergency work (P1) and urgent (P2) time sensitive work orders.
  • All work requests flow through the scheduler. After evaluation and approval/disapproval process the work order is entered into SAP.
  • Maintains backlog files of work orders awaiting scheduling in accordance with their priority and requested completion date. Those jobs unplanned, requiring engineering, waiting for materials, waiting for downtime, etc., are filed accordingly. When ready for scheduling, work orders are reviewed in production meeting for entry into the Weekly Schedule.
  • Forecasts special maintenance manpower needs for weekends, holidays, and projects done in house and coordinates these requirements through maintenance leads and the maintenance manager.
  • Follows up to ensure the completed schedules and work orders are returned at the proper time. Carefully reviews completed schedules and corresponding work orders returned by the maintenance supervisors / leads, monitor work order progress, and prepare associated reports.
  • Makes recommendations to production concerning long-range maintenance needs and, in collaboration with production, prepares a weekly forecast of all jobs expected to be scheduled for the following week. Maintains a list of planned work orders requiring equipment to be down, so that some or all can be performed in the event of an unscheduled downtime. These lists, by machine ID, are reviewed and updated weekly.
  • Develop and sustain reliability programs (PM) for maintenance work.
  • Create risk based equipment criticality ranking.
  • Determine time directed, condition directed, failure finding, and run to failure equipment.
  • Reviews with the Maintenance Leads the actual labor expended versus estimated labor and material used for completed jobs, in order to determine corrective measures needed to improve the accuracy of estimating and improving methods of doing work. Job estimates are continually refined and thereby reflect improving accuracy and consistency; representing fair as well as challenging expectancies.
  • Develops a file of standard work orders (plans) for regularly recurring repair jobs, based on historical experience, to simplify the planning process.
  • Research, price, and requisition parts if not on hand and add as needed to Material Master Inventory List suggested min/max status. Stages non-stocked parts with proper work orders when received.
