PURPOSE

Manages the factory’s Maintenance Department, which is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading all Maintenance services related to the facility. This includes managing the factory’s annual maintenance budget and all capital appropriation requests; tracking and managing fixed assets; and providing technical and problem-solving assistance and recommendations to other factory departments.

Manages the factory’s Maintenance department. Oversees the Maintenance supervisors’ implementation of the factory’s maintenance program, including preventative and corrective maintenance of all production and factory support equipment, modification of production equipment for increased efficiencies, inventory of spare parts and materials, maintenance of factory building and grounds, and energy and utilities conservation.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Prepare and submit capital appropriation requests for cost savings, capacity, replacement, sanitation, safety, and environmental projects.
  • Manage the Maintenance Department in the execution of projects to assure that projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Provide leadership for maintaining and operating all factory equipment. Direct Maintenance personnel to ensure that all systems operate at capacities required to meet production schedules.
  • Direct and oversee the corrective and preventative maintenance programs to reduce equipment downtime, while working in cooperation with the Quality Assurance Department Operations and FDA inspector.
  • Control Maintenance operating budget, including labor and overtime. Track spending to ensure compliance and accurate reporting.
  • Oversee the purchase and inventories of Maintenance tools, parts, and supplies.
  • Work closely with the Production Department and factory Staff to ensure the safe and efficient operation of production equipment.
  • Provide technical and problem-solving assistance to other departments, including recommendations for equipment and process improvements to reduce operating costs and increase efficiencies.
  • Oversee factory energy and utility conservation efforts, while working closely with the Safety and Environmental Department, to ensure compliance with city, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Provide information regarding the addition, modification, and disposal of capital assets to Corporate Accounting for fixed asset management. Manage tagging and inventory program for all factory assets.
  • Provide ongoing development training for supervisory personnel to enhance their managerial skills and potential. Coordinate and maintain a technical training program for mechanics to increase maintenance skill sets. Provide training and exposure for project engineers on industry and equipment advances.
  • Oversee the scheduling and training of Health, Safety, and Environmental Programs and ensure that all Maintenance personnel are fully trained in all programs related to their job description.
  • Prepare and submit reports in a timely fashion to keep upper management informed regarding downtime, efficiencies, inventories, spending, and schedules.
  • Conduct departmental meetings to keep employees up to date regarding departmental, factory, and company performance, issues, and information.
  • Work with: QA & Safety Departments:
    • Be aware of QC. QA & GMP practices and abide by all governing factors.
    • Be aware of Safety & OSHA regulations and abide by all governing factors.

ADDITIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/COMPENTENCIES-

  • Minimum of 8 years of work experience in the food processing industry
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD
  • Basic understanding of budgeting and manufacturing cost accounting principles
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, HVAC, Refrigeration, boiler, process and control systems
  • Knowledge of building construction and maintenance.
  • Fundamental understanding of, and experience with, FDA regulations and compliance
  • Skills: organizational, planning, trouble shooting, analytical, motivational and communication.

  • Decision-making:
    • Creates positive, productive work atmospheres in the departments through effective communications, cross training, and individualized development of personnel
    • Final decision on equipment, vendor, and contractor selections
    • Hiring decisions for both departments
  • Responsible maintaining liaison with:
    • Members of the staff, managers, supervisors, and employees in all areas of the factory
    • Corporate Engineering and Property Accounting
    • Vendors and contractors
    • City, county, state, and federal agencies regarding permits, licenses, inspections, and compliance
