JOB TITLE:              Maintenance Manager 

DEPARTMENT:      Operations

REPORTS TO:         Plant Manager

SUMMARY OF JOB: Responsible for the overall operation of the Maintenance Department for building and production maintenance.  Design of systems and equipment to meet production needs in processing, packaging and contract packaging.  Works with sales on new products and packaging design.  Calculates and works within a budget on machine parts and labor cost. Insures plant is operated under OSHA regulations.


  • Establishes procedures for maintaining high standards of quality, reliability and safety of all plant equipment.
  • Establishes a budget for all maintenance of the facility, production and support equipment.
  • Oversees a preventive maintenance program for all equipment.
  • Must have the ability to utilize a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
  • Oversees CAD to gather information and to assist in the designing of custom alterations to equipment.
  • Responsible for design of new systems and upgrades and the physical implementation and training of the same.   Acquires quotes for installation of all new equipment and systems, establishing budgets for same. Develops creative ideas to cut costs.
  • Completes the designing and retrofitting of equipment to fit new packaging needs including contract packaging.
  • Directs and supervises the Maintenance Supervisor who establishes the workflow of the Department.
  • Insures an effective parts inventory. Maintains cost records and controls for all equipment and building maintenance projects.
  • Participates in the hiring process of all Maintenance personnel.
  • Responsible for monitoring and controlling energy use.
  • Directs and supervises Industrial Engineer who offers sound technical and engineering advice for facilities performance improvement.
  • Communicates department projects with plant management.
  • Responsible for the operation and regulatory compliance of the Wastewater Treatment System.
  • Responsible for local, federal and EPA regulations and reports.     

QUALIFICATIONS:  Strong background in plant and equipment maintenance. Strong knowledge of food packaging and processing.  Knowledge and skills to design and oversee the operation of pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, electronic, plumbing, welding, parts layout, part testing, drafting and mechanical. Knowledge of safety and OSHA laws.  

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: College Degree Preferred.  5 or more years in maintenance to include 3 or more years in maintenance management.  Training in employee management as well as the mechanical aspects of equipment maintenance.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Excellent communication needed to interface with all departments and outside vendors.  Must be able to interact with customers on product development.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to establish and adhere to a budget as well as maintain cost records and oversee maintenance quotes.  Must be able to work in fractions, decimals, geometric formulas and metric to effectively design and fit parts and systems.  Must be able to use ohm’s law as well as other electrical formulas to compute wire size and loads on equipment and the building.

REASONING ABILITY: Excellent reasoning needed in setting up work priorities.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:   Up-to-date courses in skill required desired. Must be a licensed Wastewater Operator.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:. Heavy workload with flexible hours and schedule sometimes required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Often urgency in projects to be completed.
