Summary:

This position is responsible for overseeing a wide variety of supply chain and warehouse activities including shipping and receiving raw materials and/or finished goods and maintaining inventory and associated records. Focus areas of this position are to ensure processes are in line with SunOpta expectations, inventory is managed appropriately, risk is mitigated throughout the Supply Chain. People management responsibilities include hiring and training, planning and assigning daily work, conducting performance appraisals, addressing performance issues, and resolving problems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support Operations team by managing Oxnard warehouse team, Develop SG&I to align with Manufacturing out puts, establish, apply and Manage all areas related to warehouse operations, work closely with leadership, scheduling teams for strategic and timely positioning of Raw Fruit, Packaging and other to minimize operation downtime, drive corrective action, and implement process changes.

  • Supervise and assist in daily warehouse and shipping areas including: Filling and shipping customer orders, satisfying internal shipping requirements (technical service, vendors, etc.), ensuring accuracy of shipments and supporting documentation, receiving incoming material and routing to appropriate area or personnel, filling work orders from production, packaging assemblies and receiving into finished goods, ensuring inventory transactions are accurately logged and overseeing cycle counts and reconciliation activities.

  • Measuring and reporting the effectiveness of the department activities.

  • Developing and maintaining departmental work instructions for all tasks.

  • Establishing or adjusting work procedures to meet warehouse demands as dictated by production schedules and workflow.

  • Interpreting company policies to workers and enforcing safety regulations.

  • Recommending measures to improve quality of service, increasing efficiency of department and work crew and equipment performance.

  • Continuously improve warehouse operations using lean enterprise practices.

  • Conferring with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments and serving internal customers.

  • Controls inventory levels by conducting physical counts; reconciling with data storage system.

  • Maintains physical condition of warehouse by planning and implementing new design layouts; inspecting equipment; issuing work orders for repair and requisitions for replacement.

  • Actively identify opportunities for improving freight planning and execution processes.

  • Ensures effective safety procedures, tools and record keeping are managed through site leadership.

  • Adheres to company GMPs (good manufacturing practices), safety procedures and all other quality processes.

  • Wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when required.

  • Utilize best practices in the execution of daily responsibilities.

  • Create strong working partnerships to ensure team success.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly manages employees in the Warehouse department and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of staff.

Qualifications:

Education:

Associate degree in Business or related field.

Experience:

Three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Manufacturing environment experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing practices is beneficial. Strong analytical ability and experience with carrier, mode, and lane cost analysis required. Position requires excellent communication skills, adaptability, and the ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external customers. Outstanding verbal, written, multi-tasking and presentation skills. Bilingual in Spanish is beneficial. Must have a working knowledge of MS Word and MS PowerPoint, and be proficient with MS Excel. Experience with Oracle and DAX is beneficial.

Travel Requirements:

Travel is required to various SunOpta locations and for meetings or other job-related functions.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

Approximately 50% of work is performed in an office environment; 50% of work may involve being in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
