Job Summary

Responsible for analytical analysis of nutritional components using specialized equipment such HPLC/UPLC, ICP-MS and others; overseeing and/or performing other chemical, physical and microbiological analysis of raw materials and blends; responsible for laboratory systems implementation which includes training, calibration and maintenance, record-keeping, reporting, OOS investigation, method verification, etc..

Essential Functions

  • Conducts analytical testing for raw materials and blends via HPLC/UPLC, ICP-MS, FT-IR, spectrophotometers, autotirator and others at all phases of sample testing (i.e. material/formula evaluation and calculation, sample preparation, analysis, data generation and evaluation, documentation, clean-up and disposal of materials).
  • Complies with all cGMP, GLP, Analytical Methods, Safety, and company policies
  • Conducts root cause investigations of suspect/out-of-specification results and follow-up with corrective action, as needed.
  • Provides training to other lab members.
  • Performs equipment maintenance, calibration, and IQ/OQ/PQ activities.
  • Oversees and/or perform other chemical, physical and microbiological analysis of raw materials and blends which includes but is not limited to titration, LOD, pH, particle-size, sensory, wet-chemistry identification.
  • Performs/assists in laboratory audits.
  • Performs raw material and blend releases.
  • Performs method verification.
  • Generates and reports on lab performance metrics.
  • Creates and revises laboratory procedures and SOPs.
  • Collaborate with other members of the project team to work efficiently within the timeframe, including email correspondence.
  • Represents QC in Cross-functional meetings.
  • Acts as QC liaison to other departments and conducts correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Handles special projects assigned, if any.
  • Must be detail-oriented and flexible in adjusting to changing priorities and schedules.
  • Performs laboratory testing in accordance with SOPs.
  • Follows safety guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

Additional Functions

  • Timely completion of raw materials and blends analysis
  • Complete analytical records including raw data, calculations, training, calibration and calibration checks, OOS reports, LIMS entry and others
  • Prepares reports and presents to the appropriate manager.


  • Bachelors in Science in Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science or related field
  • 3-5 years work experience in quality control in a manufacturing, food or nutraceutical company
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of personnel with the utmost professionalism
  • Must have demonstrably strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal), to include speaking clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while remaining productive at all times.
  • Ability to stay positive and calm in difficult and/or trying circumstances.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and possess team-based problem-solving skills.
  • Must be results-focused and oriented toward accomplishment of team and organizational goals.

  • Working knowledge of good laboratory and manufacturing practices and safety protocols.

  • Must be able to pass respiratory exam and fit test.
  • Ability to work while wearing Personal Protective Equipment including respirator (which requires minimal to no facial hair).

Typical Environmental Conditions

  • May be exposed to moderate noise levels (i.e. office equipment, light traffic).
  • May be exposed to moderate to high noise levels (i.e. production equipment, forklifts, heavy traffic).
  • May be exposed to humidity, intense heat and cold, outdoor weather conditions, and fumes and toxic chemicals.
  • May work in areas with mechanical moving parts, above ground with risk of fall, or areas with risk of electrical shock.

  • Potential for periodic domestic travel (<10%)
