Key Account Manager – East Coast

Our client is a top 10 global flavor house that is looking for a North East area Key Account Manager to manage large customers.  This candidate will ideally be based in the Northeast.  They will be responsible and the driving force to achieve the sales and profit goals of the company within a defined customer territory.  Sets objectives and plans strategies to improve penetration of the accounts in accordance with a defined Account/Territory plan and consistent with the overall Companies Business Plan.  Develops hands-on application knowledge of Division’s products, key technologies and competencies and actively seeks and articulates ways in which to position our products within the customers brand and product portfolio in order to generate sustained, profitable sales growth.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain and Drive Sales and Gross Profit at defined accounts within the Sales Territory to achieve and exceed annual sales and profitability budgets
  • Ensure all financial and supply chain metrics are maintained and improved.  (Including but not limited to inventory levels, trading terms, incentive schemes, lead times, risk management, etc.)
  • Maintain a high degree of direct call frequency in order to build multi-level relationships and strong customer intimacy.  Bring in Senior Management as required and map and articulate various decision matrices with the organization (both local and internationally as appropriate)
  • Develops hands-on application knowledge of Division’s products, key technologies and competencies and actively seeks and articulates ways in which to successfully and sustainable position our products within the customers brand and product portfolio
  • Develop winning sales strategies and account plans aligned with the overall company plans and the major brands/categories needs of the customer.  Identify and exploit new business opportunities including “disruptive” ideas and approaches which increases the pace of growth and profitability and builds competitive barriers to entry
  • Build internal support to overall objectives of the major customers/territory and negotiate/motivate and enroll internal company personnel behind these strategies.  Responsible for priority setting and acts as a facilitator between company functions and as required
  • Responsible for the timely completion of all required reports, including but not limited to expense reports, quarterly reports, budgets, monthly, quarterly, and annual forecasts, new business models and investment decisions, etc.

Requirements:

  • BS in Chemistry, Food Science or related field or BS in business, MBA a plus
  • Five to ten years’ experience in sales and sales management
  • Consistently displaying a high degree of energy and entrepreneurial drive across a range of subjects and disciplines in order to build strong interdependent customer relationships. (Including but not limited to; Negotiation, Planning and Project Management, Finance (Pricing, Margins, Trading Terms, and Value Chain Understanding, etc.)  Supply Chain, Forecasting, Marketing and Brand understanding, Applications and Technical understanding
  • The role is a key face of the company and needs to operate in an extremely professional manner and in compliance with all legal and ethical business practices.  Must at all times keep the Director of Sales and/or VP of Sales informed of important marketplace and/or business issues that might affect the Company as well as providing recommended action for such issues
