JOB TITLE: IT User Experience (UX) Specialist

LOCATION: Madison, Wisconsin

REPORTS TO: Sr. Director of Information Technology



This position is responsible for working collaboratively with end users and the IT Service Strategy and Design Team to measure and optimize the user experiences of the organization s internal applications and services. The position will serve as the voice of the user to ensure their needs known and designed for in an intuitive way. In addition to working with end users, this position will work closely with IT Business Partners, Enterprise Architects and other IT departments to design, create, deploy and train on IT products and services. The position will require an effective level of knowledge regarding design concepts, such as human-centered design, along with business literacy about business units visions, objectives, desired outcomes, midrange plans, and culture.

  • Conduct in-person or virtual observations to understand user needs and validate service quality
  • Work with technology owners to design and/or create products that people like and find easy to use
  • Work with end users capture feedback and input on presentation and interactivity of IT products and services.
  • Review applications and evaluate the effectiveness of their UX (user experience)
  • Facilitate user testing of IT products and services
  • Define interaction models, user task flows, and UI (user interface) specifications
  • Communicate user scenarios, end-to-end experiences, interaction models, and screen/user interface designs to other IT Service design members
  • Work with IT Business Partners, Enterprise Architects and other IT departments to design, create and deploy IT services that solve end users problems.
  • Work with corporate communications to incorporate a visual or brand identity into the finished product
  • Develop and maintain use case workflows for end users of IT products and services
  • Update and maintain knowledge base materials or user guides for IT products or services
  • Assist in onboarding and training of users to help maximize their productivity and effectiveness
  • Work closely with management and employees to improve technology adoption, build technical competencies, and increase productivity.
  • Analyze user trends and metrics in partnership with the IT group to develop solutions, programs, and policies.
  • Participate in the resolution of complex technology issues. Conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
  • Timely and accurate completion of duties.

  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to correctly add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to correctly compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Other Skills & Abilities: Building relationships with other departments and facilities to foster good communication between all parties. Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment. Must have the ability to drive a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver s license.
    • Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the organization's technology suites, products, services, and the administrative practices related to those factors.
    • Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships.
    • Experience and knowledge of change management principles, methodologies and tools.
    • Ability to identify gaps and areas that require improvements.

This position requires an associate degree in computer science or business, or related field, and one to three years of job-related experience. It is preferred that this position have a bachelor s degree in computer science or Business, or related field, knowledge related to the job and three to five years of job-related experience.
