In this position, you will have a key role in delivering innovation projects that support DFA Ingredient Solutions growth strategy. You will lead the research, prototyping and development of innovative ingredients applying emerging and existing technologies to generate value to our family farm owners through new ingredients that drive profitable growth. Will be an essential collaborator in identifying and driving strategic initiatives within the technical, marketing, and sales functions. Be expected to use internal and external resources, including marketplace intelligence, to bring creative and innovative dairy ingredient ideas forward for strategic evaluation. Practice sound scientific principals and experimental design to development and determining solutions with emphasis on advanced nutrition, taste, and flavor ingredients. In tune with food industry trends. Passion for product development and a curiosity for discovery. To be successful you will be self-motivated, driven, creative, while also being pragmatic.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strong knowledge in dairy proteins and/or fats. Strong knowledge in milk and dairy component fractions (macro and micronutrients) is preferred
  • Organize and prioritize work activities independently and with a disciplined approach
  • Design and execute detailed project plans, including timelines
  • Manage projects and deliverables to support strategic business initiatives and deadlines
  • Drive growth through collaboration and continuous improvement through a high level of professionalism, initiative, and creativity
  • Ability to excel in a rapid, deadline-driven setting, with flexibility to balance shifting priorities to push strategic projects to conclusion
  • Develop new ingredients through research, prototyping bench samples, pilot plant samples, and supporting commercial production trials
  • Accurately document and effectively communicate research results to team members, cross-functional teams, and leadership
  • Drive innovations into DFA Ingredient Solutions by screening and vetting external technologies
  • Seek out additional projects and activities to drive business growth
  • Participate as technical liaison on cross functional teams to support DFA Ingredient Solutions Innovation growth
  • Actively contributes to maintaining and continued improvement of laboratory and pilot plant working environments
  • Ensure that all SOPs pertaining to safety, food safety, good manufacturing practice, and laboratory/pilot equipment operations are followed
  • Create technical documents related to new product development including: Manufacturing instructions, nutritional information, ingredient statements, analytical and microbial testing requirements
  • Utilizes and maintains proficiency in software systems, including but not limited to, formulation (PLM), production (ERP), sales (CRM)
  • Participates in sensory panels
  • Maintain safe working conditions for employees and compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding health and safety issues
  • Dedicate effort to safety as we expect every employee to leave work in the same condition as they arrive
  • Follow all DFA good manufacturing practices (GMP) and work in a manner consistent with all corporate regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements
  • Exhibit the values and ethics of Dairy Farmers of America through honesty, discretion, and sound judgment
  • Adhere to all DFA Quality, Safety and GMP policies and procedures and report any nonconformity
  • Attend required training, including but not limited to, Safety, GMP/GLP, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), and Safe Quality Foods (SQF)
