Role purpose

As part of a business line spin off, a new Tax department is being created. The mission of this Tax department is to be viewed as a &##39;trusted business advisor&##39; within the Company. Paramount to achieving this mission is having the right resources in place that bring a customer service approach and business centric view to providing tax advice. As a member of the Indirect Tax group, the Indirect Tax Senior Analyst position is responsible for preparing various indirect tax returns including sales and use, property tax, unclaimed property, ethanol tax, gross receipts and other adhoc returns as needed. There will be significant interface with tax department personnel and individuals at other business units (Shared Services Center, Plant personnel, and Customer Service).

Main accountabilities

  • Preparation of assigned sales and use tax returns
  • Review the sales and use tax returns prepared by the Tax Analyst
  • Assist the Indirect Tax Manager with the preparation of property tax renditions
  • Pay all property tax bills
  • Prepare tax account reconciliations
  • Approve the creation of new customers and vendors for input into our SAP ERP System
  • Work with the Tax Analyst to renew customer exemption certificates on an annual basis
  • Assist in maintaining internal controls throughout all associated processes
  • Work on special projects as assigned

Performance measures

  • Ensure that all sales and use tax returns are timely and accurately filed
  • Ensure that all property tax payments are made timely and accurately
  • Ensure that tax account reconciliations are timely and accurately prepared
  • Ensure that customer exemption certificates are maintained contemporaneously, and periodically updated

Legislative requirements

  • A duty to take care of your own health, safety, and that of others who may be affected by your actions at work. Fully co-operate to help everyone meet their legal safety requirements
  • Adhere to all defined local environmental laws, regulations and permit requirements

Skills and experience required

Experience

  • 2 or more years of experience in sales and use tax reporting and research
  • 2 or more years of experience with property tax compliance and research
  • Experience with using Microsoft Excel and Word
  • ERP experience (SAP preferred).

Financial competencies

  • Understanding of US GAAP and IFRS Accounting
  • Risk & Control Orientation - Understands the importance of control excellence and continuous improvement as a fundamental underpin
  • Commercially Led - Supports the business to deliver its commercial objectives through the effective provision of tax services

Qualifications

  • BS Finance or accountancy, or similar qualification

Skills and knowledge

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to convey complex concepts in a clear and structured manner
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines, in an environment that is fast paced and demanding
  • A strong team player with the confidence and ability to work autonomously and make decisions
