Formaggio Cheese has been a part of the Mongiello family tradition for years. Today, Anthony Mongiello continues the family tradition his grandfather, Lorenzo Mongiello started in 1925. Lorenzo established a specialty canning corporation for ricotta cheese, designing metal tapered cans and building machinery to produce them. Lorenzo’s son, Angelo Mongiello Sr. continued his father’s innovation by inventing the first automated mozzarella cheese making machine after watching how workers painfully molded the cheese with their bare hands in boiling water. Angelo earned many patents for his creations as well as a place for his name in the book “The History of Italian Cheese in America’, where he is listed as the inventor of the first mozzarella making machine in the United States.
