$60-75K plus bonus

Our Overland Park, KS Food manufacturing client is looking to hire a Food Scientist due to growth mode. This Food Scientist is responsible for formulating, developing, applying, testing and evaluating outgoing products ensuring they are properly prepared and meeting company and customer standards. Perform laboratory testing on products. Perform administrative tasks including updating formula databases and record maintenance. Position requires attention to detail, multi-tasking, self-starter and self-directed but also being a member of the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, duplicate or modify formulation
  • Formulate, apply, test at bench level and evaluate outgoing products ensuring proper preparation
  • Create finished samples and arrange for completed products/samples to be shipped to customers
  • Conduct test panels for internal/external customers, including identifying panelists, preparation and shipping of samples, recording and evaluating results, reporting findings to appropriate departments
  • Laboratory analysis of final products to ensure compliance with labeling standards, food consistency and adherence to cost standards
  • Maintain accurate project files, formula, specifications and data
  • Communicate with internal and external customers and suppliers
  • Contact vendors to receive sample products for testing and pertinent information, including, but not limited to, specification sheet, nutritional s, allergens, and kosher
  • Create label declarations on all formulations
  • Update existing formula directions in database
  • Enter formulations in Genesis to obtain nutritional information on seasoning blends
  • Assist with preparation of products for in-house customer presentations
  • Coordinate with Purchasing to obtain required ingredients and lab supplies

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or Technology
  • Experience in food/sauce development

· 4+ years’ experience in food development

  • Experience with wet ingredients
  • Working knowledge of gums, starches, stabilizers, preservatives and Acidified Foods under CFR 21 PART 114
  • Culinary skills desired
  • Strong communication, organization and team-oriented skills
