Fleet Operations Manager

Position Overview:

The Fleet Operations Manager is responsible for the tactical and strategic development of Johnsonville s Private Fleet. The Fleet Manager will; coach and oversee the development of Fleet Members, ensure FMCSA compliance, recruit and retain drivers, meet high standards for customer service, ensure the quality of Fleet assets, own budgetary performance, support/develop and drive continuous improvement, and ensure Fleet meets the highest safety and performance standards where drivers are viewed as positive brand ambassadors by customers and fellow motorist.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure FMCSA compliance in collaboration with the Fleet Safety and Compliance Coordinator
  • Promote, recognize and initiate safe operating practices
  • Coach, lead and develop Fleet members; 4 staff members and 30 company drivers
    • Expansion plans for 20 additional drivers between 2021 and 2022
  • Recruit and retain drivers collaborating with the Fleet Team and Member Services (HR)
  • Own the Johnsonville Private Fleet P&L; develop and administer budget, analyze expenditures and revenues, develop initiatives to meet budget goals, ensure accurate accounting, reporting and forecasting
  • Develop tactical and strategic plans that best support safety, service, cost, savings and Fleet growth
  • Develop and support standard operating procedures (SOP) as required to support cohesive business rules and expectations
  • Lead, direct and perform activities related to dispatching, routing and tracking utilizing Trimble Suite (TMW); drive operational efficiencies and customer service
  • Become a subject matter expert in Trimble Suite, (TMW)
  • Develop and monitor metrics, close gaps in performance (deliver HICS- Highest Impact on Customer success)
  • Manage the procurement and maintenance of Fleet assets
  • Respond and support requests for pricing collaborating with Johnsonville Transport and Logistics, LLC
  • Build positive customer relationships with both internal and external customers
  • Work collaboratively within Supply Chain and other Business Units to problem solve, improve processes supporting organizational goals and customer service
  • Leverage external learning and develop best in class initiatives, processes and benchmarking
  • Direct investigations to verify and resolve noncompliance utilizing root cause analysis and corrective actions

Education:

  • Bachelor s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Transportation/Logistics or related field required

Experience:

  • 10 years motor carrier experience (temperature controlled preferred)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulationsrequired
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain drivers required
  • Proven track record and experience managing a transportation (Trucking) P&L required
  • Procurement and maintenance of trucking assets required
  • Previous Fleet or Dedicated operations experience preferred
  • Customer facing experience preferred
  • Operational management software and telematics (e.g. People-Net, Fleet Link, TMW) with applications and analysis tools preferred
