Description

The Field Service Technician is responsible for commissioning, servicing, repairing and troubleshooting controls systems and mechanical/electrical equipment. Utilizes computers, software, hand tools, test equipment, wiring diagrams and manufacturer&##39;s specifications in a timely, accurate manner.

Essential Functions:

  • Travel 80-90% to job sites, both in the U.S. and internationally.
  • Install, diagnose, service and repair PLCs, mechanical or electrical equipment associated with Shick Esteve systems.
  • Examine electrical and mechanical equipment during operating cycles to detect excess vibration, overheating, electrical shorts, fluid leaks, and loose, noisy or non-functioning parts.
  • Replace worn or defective parts such as switches, pumps, motors, bearings, transmissions, belts, gears, control boards, elements and defective wiring.
  • Provide research for part prices/availability, manufacturer&##39;s specifications, warranty status, estimate approval or other related items for customers as required.
  • Order additional or replacement parts for missing or faulty items; return faulty items for warranty evaluation.
  • Calibrate meters, set timers, etc. and adjust as required during service or startup as indicated in manufacturer’s manuals etc.
  • Apply knowledge and ability to use hand tools and operate test equipment such as test meters, ammeters, voltmeters or ohmmeters.
  • Read and understand wiring diagrams to trace electrical circuits and ensure proper operation according to manufacturer&##39;s specifications.
  • Interact with customers and co-workers in a professional manner.
  • Determine and explain nature of repairs to customers in a clear manner to avoid miscommunication, and review service time sheets with customers for signature approval.
  • Document service activities via daily work reports in a manner that effectively communicates work time, activity, and status to Supervisor, Project Manager, and/or customer.
  • Maintain appropriate communication with the office or Project Team to ensure efficient and timely Start-up or service.
  • Return customer units to original state and clean up work area daily and prior to leaving each job.
  • Attend and participate in customer start-up and technical meetings as required.
  • Assist with planning as required; then execute project startup against plan and on budget.
  • Substantial field work and travel (75-90%) will be required. Occasional international travel.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Expectations: Within the first year of employment the Field Service Technician must understand the Basics of Shick Controls Engineering of dry and liquid ingredient handling systems, including creating ladder logic code, graphical interface operation and ability to make edits. Testing and editing of batch and recipe management systems, PID loop tuning, and panel wiring verification. (Proficient by 24 months)

  • Able to travel 80-90%, including international travel.
  • Bilingual speakers preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent relevant field service experience.
  • Minimum of three to five years’ experience in installation, industrial maintenance, and troubleshooting of processing systems required. Prefer knowledge of pneumatic conveying systems and basic fluid handling knowledge.
  • Ability to review and understanding mechanical and electrical drawing packages.
  • Ability to perform trouble shooting of mechanical, controls, and instruments at fabrication shop or at customer site locations.
  • Understanding of the concepts of PLC program development, Panelview (HMI development), DeviceNet, Ethernet, ControlNet and batch controls.
  • General knowledge of NEC, BISSC, 3A, OSHA.
  • Ability to manage/lead in situations with customers, team members, and contractors with composure.
  • Strong written and oral communication, customer service and professionalism.
  • Must be organized, have strong time management skills and a strong work ethic.
  • Computer knowledge: Microsoft Office, Excel and Word. Database experience a plus, but not required.
  • Able to climb, bend, kneel. Able to regularly lift 50 lbs., up to 100 lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance required.
  • Valid passport or ability to get a passport required.
