Gerber Products Company dba Nestlé Infant Nutrition is seeking an Environmental Specialist to join its team at our Fremont, MI facility.

This position is responsible for promoting an environmental service mindset for our internal customers. The scope of activities includes an ability to apply established information and practices in order to encourage and continually improve environmental compliance within the Nestlé Environmental Programs and zero loss Objectives.

Responsible for environmental compliance, plans, record keeping, inspections, and reporting associated with the Gerber Fremont Factory/wastewater, including both state and federal reports. Coordination of hazardous and universal waste disposal and associated record keeping. Leads environmental sustainability efforts for the factory.

Support environmental sustainability efforts; obtain and sustain ISO 14001 certification, water and energy conservation, waste reduction and pollution prevention. Key focus on maintaining wastewater land application/groundwater discharge operations. Track hazardous and universal waste usage and coordinate disposal.

Serves as a key environmental resource for new equipment/line layout and design.

Spends time on the floor engaging team advisors and employees about environmental opportunities, soliciting ideas, and following up on issues.

Complete all MDEQ, and EPA environmental reports with supporting records, inspections, and documentation to comply with all permit regulations and reporting requirements. Lead zero waste journey. Work with Campus leadership to develop and manage environmental cost saving projects.

Environmental Training
Develops and coordinates environmental/safety training for Fremont facility and contractors to ensure compliance with all Federal, State and internal Nestlé standards.

Maintains Environmental Programs
Lead environmental/recycling team meeting. Completes reports related to environmental programs, including performance reports, KPI, etc.

All other duties as assigned.

Responsible to have safe work instructions available for all positions, processes are run in accordance with SOP&##39;s, and other documentation. All employees have the required level of safety training, all equipment, installations are well maintained with safety guards & devices, and associates are using the appropriate PPE.

To assure activities being performed having an environmental impact are communicated and accomplished according to the environmental management systems.

All employees will support and participate in Nestlé Continuous Excellence (NCE) and Total Performance Management (TPM) as a part of their job responsibility within their Business Unit or as assigned within the factory.


Bachelor Degree in Environmental Science or related degree.

Ability to obtain the necessary certifications and licenses associated with the position.


Experience with State and Federal environmental reporting.

Demonstrated leadership experience.


Capable of making well informed decisions in both routine and non-routine situations.

Good written and oral communication skills.

Ability to work and lead in a team environment.

Working knowledge of environmental regulations and certifications.

Ability to link communication between a wide variety of organizations and agencies.

Ability to lead hourly direct reports.
