Program Management

• Develop and implement HSE system policies and procedures, ensuring all program elements meet or exceed applicable federal, state, and local OSHA/EPA regulations.

• Develop and maintain cross-functional partnerships, acting as a consultant regarding the design and use of equipment and/or processes to reduce the potential for loss or risk exposure and to ensure that compliance and safety goals are being met.

• Ensure compliance with  HSE policies and procedures through routine, comprehensive, and collaborative auditing, verification, and validating activities.

• Ensure routine hazard analysis/risk assessments are conducted. Assist in identification and implementation of effective physical and/or behavioral control measures. Ensure validation of implementation and verification of the effectiveness of in-place control measures.

• Exercise a leadership, coordination, and communication role with all department leadership to drive continuous improvement in HSE system verification, validation, and recordkeeping systems to ensure compliance with all policies and regulatory requirements.

• Investigate and complete root cause analyses on all incidents. Develop corrective action plans to address root basic causes and management system weak-spots through the use of industry-recognized cause analysis techniques (5-Why, 8-D, etc.). When appropriate, develop action plans for personnel retraining, provide coaching and counseling, and/or recommend disciplinary action.

• Reports on health, safety, and environmental regulatory changes, providing proactive recommendations on compliance strategies.

• Support Human Resources in managing workers compensation cases, including facilitation of return to work programs.

• Work within HSE team to support companywide initiatives such as Safe Quality Foods (SQF), Sustainability, and Lean/Continuous Improvement.


• Develop and conduct training programs in coordination with other learning initiatives (i.e. food safety, sustainability) to enhance existing programs or develop new programs to further reduce the potential for accidents injuries or other loss.

• Lead company-wide implementation of an accredited safety system, such as ANSI Z10 or Voluntary Protection Program.

• Proactively facilitate training and coordination with local Fire and Rescue teams.

Personnel Management

• Ensure compliance of company policies within all local, state, and federal regulations including, but not limited to, OSHA regulations and wage and hour laws.

• Conduct annual performance assessments. Coach and develop staff by providing an environment that encourages innovation and professional development.

• Draft and administer development plans and provide development opportunities.


• Adheres to safety programs in order to provide a safe and clean workplace for fellow employees within the regulations of all OSHA local, state and federal regulations.

• Complete necessary trainings to ensure all certifications required for role are maintained as current. Certifications may include, but are not limited to, Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), Back Safety, Forklift, Arc Flash, Confined Space, etc.

• Develop and implement  HSE system policies and procedures, ensuring all program elements meet or exceed applicable federal, state, and local OSHA/EPA regulations.

• Collaborate with company leadership to evaluate and determine appropriate proactive safety strategies for initiatives, action plans, and projects that may have an impact on existing facility or employees. Collaboratively develop and implement proactive strategies and general procedures/practices to prevent workplace injuries and environmental incidents.

• Conduct confined space entries in compliance to program requirements.

• Coordinates hazardous materials response procedures, training, and documentation. Facilitates coordination with local, state, and national response teams as needed.

• Coordinates the inspection and monitoring of all fire protection systems to ensure they are maintained and operated in compliance with company standards and insurance carrier recommendations. Monitors, updates, and continuously improves the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) and First Responder Program.

• Ensure and develop functionality of company-wide employee safety committee, enabling employee engagement in HSE system core elements of training, inspections, auditing, continuous improvement, and overall system ownership.

• Ensure facilities, processes, and equipment are inspected for hazards to reduce the potential of loss/risk. Recommend improvements and monitor implementation plans. 

• Interface with federal, state, and local OSHA/EPA regulatory agencies for inspections, audits, and compliance issues.

• Issue monthly reports on health, safety, and environment system compliance and performance metrics.

• Maintain required qualifications for confined space entries.



• Bachelor's Degree in occupational health, safety, or a related field with seven years of work experience in Health, Safety and Environment Systems

• Experience with implementing and/or managing HSE Management systems (ANSI –Z10 or VPP)

• Experience in Health, Safety, and Environment auditing



• Five or more years of safety management experience in manufacturing related industries, including agriculture production, and/or other high-risk industries

• Five or more years of experience with implementing and/or managing HSE Management systems (ANSI –Z10 or Voluntary Protection Program)
