Director / Sr. Manager of Innovation

Reporting to the VP of Innovation, the Director / Sr. Manager of Innovation will work actively with the company leadership to develop and drive the food business.  This business will focus heavily on the development of new product ingredients and formulations.  It will work to create and develop a team of company employees who will seek new and innovative ways to create new lines of business with our customers and seamlessly manage the overall customer experience for large CPG and Private Label customers.  This position will serve a critical role in designing the entire Ingredient Excellence Center for the business and putting in place a technical team to manage this business.

This position will require an individual who has proven experience in balancing the needs of the business with the wants and desires of the customer.  They should be motivated and engaged by the opportunity to build new food ingredient business and new product lines.  This individual should be outgoing and professional.  They should excel in an ever-changing environment with a high expectation on successfully meeting competing business demands.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Create and manage the Ingredient Excellence Center (IEC) for the business of the United States, specifically located in the West Coast
  • Strong team member in completing and managing the scoping of the R&D facility location, buildings, capability, manpower, etc.
  • Part of the advisory team to the business on the variety of high value growth opportunities to expand into commercial production plant for specialty ingredients
  • Driver and execution of the ingredients business growth initiatives with large CPG and private label customers, delivering on the double-digit growth targets
  • Work with other leadership to create a robust management process for other innovation projects, including company’s growth initiatives as well as those of strategic US and global customers, with the IEC team
  • Partner with the company’s global plant teams to:
    • Finalize the specifications and standard operating procedures (SOPs) through partnership with the Quality teams
    • Troubleshoot and lead issue resolution during the start-up phase
    • Innovation and creation of value added by products from processing of categories that can go into other products streams for various financial opportunities
  • Provide continuous engagement and meaningful interactions with customers, including buyers, research and development (R&D)
  • Partner with impacted technical teams to understand customer and R&D issues / obstacles.  Work to proactively provide solutions that support the business and attain customer goals
  • Represent food at the Chicago Customer Solution Center (CSC) for all cross-product initiatives and in the application, development using their ingredients

Technical Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.  Advanced degree preferred
  • Prior experience with Technology Transfer
  • Five+ years manufacturing and business development experience in food; strong commercialization experience is required. 
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required
  • Ability to work within a diverse team across several geographies is required
  • Proven leadership ability and desire to manage a team is highly desired.  Previous experience in the start up of new product lines is strongly preferred
  • Desire and ability to travel (domestic USA) is required.  Will be required to travel to Chicago several times a year
