Director of R&D/Product Development

We are working with an outsourced operations firm devoted exclusively to providing knowledge, execution and support for emerging food & beverage brands determined to achieve success.  This exciting opportunity as Director of R&D/Product Development will work with the CEO and COO to lead and support client innovation needs through product development and innovation strategy. The Director of R&D will provide technical/innovation and process support to food companies in the natural/organic space, assisting clients with commercialization, innovation, process and regulatory issues.  This is a remote position that requires a self-starter and someone who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment.


Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Help clients manage new product development based on innovation strategy
  • Coordinate with clients on technical challenges and root cause formulation issues to identity non-conforming products, able to identify the cause
  • Assist in vetting formulations for viability
  • Identify, research and monitor industry developments of potential new product technologies and/or processes that will benefit the company
  • Assist in revising, stage and re-launch products and/or platforms when needed
  • Help clients work through co manufacturer relationships; identify changes that need to be made if necessary
  • Help lay down tracks for production/commercialization process with new partner co-packer/co manufacturer
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Required Skills/Qualifications (including but not limited to):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Or Food Engineering or BS in related field
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience taking products to market and through scale up. Must understand food technology.
  • Able to talk to ingredient needs, processing types, and working with co-manufacturers
  • Proven track record of developing and commercializing food products working with external partners to do so.
  • Solid understanding of regulatory/QA and process engineering
  • Ability to work within tight simultaneous deadlines that involve many products & projects in development
  • Organizational, problem solving, and decision-making skills are required
  • Willing to be entrepreneurial environment and flexible with responsibilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are required
