Job Description:

The Director of Procurement will report directly to the VP Supply Chain Management and is responsible for the management of all large spend categories.
  • Implement the supply chain and service level strategy developed by the VP Supply Chain Management, so that the strategy meets company performance objectives, drives cost savings and fulfills customer expectations.
  • Assure strategic sourcing opportunities are prioritized and executed via the standard strategic sourcing process.
  • Maximize cost savings by establishing savings targets in each spend category and implementing commodity and service sourcing plans to achieve those targets.
  • Develop performance metrics that track savings, material availability, working capital optimization, contract adherence and overall supply chain improvement.
  • Continually monitor, analyze and assess pricing and delivery trends on commodities that impact Company spend and maintain continuous communication with VP Supply Chain Management, finance and manufacturing.
  • Communicate and negotiate with suppliers' senior management for long term partnership agreements.
  • Ensure that all contracts and associated suppliers are compliant to corporate policy.
  • Ensure completion of accurate spend analyses and identify and execute long term, sustainable strategies that create long term savings.
  • Stay abreast of the latest contracting processes and technologies that have implications for strategic sourcing.
  • Ensure material specifications are generated for approved materials and that they are communicated and agreed to by approved vendors to confirm material quality.
  • Develop supplier evaluation metrics and document and measure suppliers' performance against these metrics.
  • Publish material spend reports and monitor against budgeted and planned levels.
  • Develop strong supplier relationships that will foster continuous improvements in communication, processes and quality.
  • Resolve vendor disputes and accounts for all purchasing activity.
  • Assist in developing Supply Chain department budgets.

Skills - Technical:
  • 10+ years of professional purchasing experience is required
  • Experience in purchasing corn sweeteners, starches, dairy and flour (commodities and ingredients) is required.
  • 10+ years of experience collecting, analyzing and interpreting complex market, logistics, and financial information.
  • Experience analyzing contracts and financial data and developing total cost of ownership models (TCO).
  • Experience in negotiating simple and complex agreements with a detailed understanding of operations, finance, and the evaluation of terms, pricing minimum order requirements, and service level standards.
  • Ability to manage large complex projects, including managing to a project timeline, acquiring and allocating resources, ensuring quality deliverables, effective communication and project risk management.
  • Subject matter expertise in strategic sourcing methodologies and working knowledge of property procurement function (capital goods, hard assets, machinery etc.).
  • Strong ability to implement supply chain strategies and programs involving supplier partnership and alliance concepts, material planning, sourcing, supply quality, logistics, distribution.
  • MRP systems knowledge is required.
  • Knowledge in computerized ERP system is required.
  • Working knowledge of JD Edwards ERP system is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and managerial skills are required.
