Execute business management and marketing strategies that are developed through close collaboration with the senior management of the DFA s Western Area to achieve the goals and objectives for sales, marketing and transportation. Provide day-to-day management and direct oversight of marketing and transportation for the Western Area including sales, marketing and customer service while collaborating with member and field services to assure the best level of overall service to Western Area members. Develop detailed marketing recommendations and work in conjunction with the COO to establish best practices and continuous improvement strategies throughout all aspects of Western Area milk marketing, customer service, transportation while collaborating effectively with all operations across the Western Area and throughout DFA. Support DFA and Area strategic goals and values and implement and execute Western Area strategies designed to maximize market share, member income, and marketing opportunities. Ensure the highest level of professional customer, hauler and member services.
Job Duties & Responsibilities;
In consultation and coordination with the COO and other senior leaders, address all strategic marketing goals including Base Program and Managed Growth Program and new member growth opportunities.
Effectively manage the daily operations of the Western Area transportation operations, continuously look for ways to add value to and drive costs out of transportation processes
Develop an intimate understanding of regional, national, and international market conditions; competitive activities; and general economic conditions. Provide professional quality market pricing outlook presentations, both verbal and through the development of Power Point and other visuals to stakeholders, including Council and other farmer leaders
Plan, develop, and manage programs designed to promote the reputation and image of DFA across the Western Area
Receive and respond promptly to all calls/e-mails/contacts about unresolved service issues/concerns.Work to ensure that these are resolved rapidly, and at the local point of contact, implement corrective actions to eliminate duplication of issues while keeping the COO and broader team fully and immediately informed.Coordinate a cross-functional/inter-departmental response to the issue when required
Maintain an accurate understanding of competitive conditions and provide monthly to the COO
Coordinate with the accounting/producer payroll and dispatch/hauling departments on rejected load liability payments. Collaborate with the accounting department to ensure that invoices are correctly calculated and sent out in a timely manner and to track timeliness of payment
Represent DFA and the Western Area at industry and public events
Partner with the senior management of division in the development of business management, marketing, and sales strategies. Provide leadership and responsibility for executing the specific strategies to oversee all aspects of sales and the efficient marketing of fluid products (raw milk and where applicable, condensed skim milk, cream, etc.)
Serve as primary local customer contact, managing customer relationships in the region from contract negotiation, reporting, market support, and education of team members. Interact with customers daily, addressing their needs in a manner that provides superior and professional customer service and builds positive relationship for the ultimate benefit of our member owners
Interact and facilitate regular communication with broader team members within marketing, operations, and accounting to identify, understand, communicate, and resolve any issues related to customer plants and customer relationships. Communicate any changes to customer pricing agreements with the accounting group and for verifying customer invoicing is consistent with the agreement
Oversee and maximize the optimal sales mix of regional sales and marketing activities. Understand the budget process and the resulting impact of performance on producer payments through securing access to beneficial markets and relationships
Work closely with the DFA plant manufacturing team to develop a close understanding of operations and sales opportunities
Serve as primary local contact for non-member milk supplies with responsibilities for managing the relationships and milk supply agreements with those entities that we may choose to work with in such a relationship within the region
Actively participate in the development and implementation of annual and long-range strategic plans and budgets for sales and marketing with the COO
Develop and implement solicitation strategies and programs that support and reflect the Western Area s market share strategy
Conduct special marketing projects/studies as assigned
